New ati graphics card. - Page 2

dont forget to disable onboard video from the bios once you get a new card in. it isnt nec. but it will take a load off of your CPU.

youre going to need a new power supply if yours is only 150 or 200 watts. im pretty sure you would be fine with less, but i would pick up a nice 550 watt.

I did find out however that I my MB supports quadacore.

For bare minimum his CPU will be fine, the bottle necks aren't that severe.

We aren't talking about high end Dx11 games.

Your motherboard will be of a certain Socket, AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+. One of those.

____________

From what I'm assuming depending on when you built your PC, You should be on a Socket AM2, Which have a fairly limited supply as they don't make those processors anymore but a number of sites may carry them.

Honestly, Get the graphics first, then worry about that if you feel that it isn't sufficient increase in performance.

I couldn't find your PSU specs in this thread but as long as your running a 500W you should be fine.

( Your system would use far under 500W) but I'm honestly not sure why that is the required by a number of video cards that only draw 170W. ( if anyone can fill me in)\\

6850 is 20$ cheaper but honestly isn't worth it you get far more out of the 6870.

------

Double check you have a PCI-E Slot, and you should be fine on Power connectors, Think its 1-2 6 Pins or it will come with Molex adapters (4pin big one -> 6 pin)

_________

Other good option and would be more then enough power for you, is a 6770

Current specs. Not the best. lol

amd 62x2 5000 black edition overclocked to 3.2ghz.
biostar A740G M2+ with integrated ati 2100 vidio
4 gig ram
I see no reason not to buy a used 4890.

I personally stray away from buying older used hardware facing many of my current hardware not being able to live more then a week or two at times, makes me feel like an older one without warranty may croak and then I'm out $ and a GPU.

Unless your getting an amazing deal on it I'd stick with new generation.
