That's good as well.

How about the Bagger 288?

AMD can adapt an APU for a lot of platforms, but I don't see the APU working in a server unless it is running GPU accelerated programs. AMD would have to regain a huge amount of market share to pay off their debts while investing more R&D at the same time.

.

and people on ocn dont make more then 1% of the total market ....

and yes ... because of that big monopoly people suffer ... if both company would both have 50%/50% of the whole market everything would be better ....

and if they were to use a bulldozer apu in the server world it would be most likely to reign in on hpc workload ... so they could have an apu and non apu chip ....

im not saying it will be the only sollution because that would be stupid .. but some task will require a gpu on the die ... and who's to say that with the gpu and cpu completly fused that the use are limited to gpu task ???

what if amd over the years use the gpu's ressource to compute cpu task ... and vice versa ...

I don't understand this at all.

For me, a CPU's performance is the most important factor when buying it for a desktop. I'll focus on graphics performance when I look at GPU cards.

intel's crappy on die gpu is pointless .... but then again intel licensed gpu patent from someone else and made it their own iirc

It works perfectly fine for an HTPC. I use only it for QuickSync when encoding videos. Not sure why a desktop system would care about the iGPU.

so why waste the silicon then???

they could have added more logic to the die for more cpu power since people dont seem to need it ...

The new trinity APU is really interesting ... its the same core as the komodos CPU but yea ofc theres only 4 of them instead of 10 but it come with a nice next gen discrete GPU!! Cant wait to see how it perform I really need a new laptop and I think this will be it.. Im not really impressed by Llano atm, a Core i3 2310m and any low-end GPU is by far superior for about the same price.

Correct -- "for you".

Thing is... buyers like you are me make up too little of the market for AMD to care. In the end (after the old stuff like Ath II and Ph II is phased out), Llano/Trinity will be cheaper than mobo IGPs when big box companies like Dell are building mainstream laptops/desktops... and it'll perform better to boot. IGPs already sell way more than discrete cards. All Llano/Trinity is doing is increasing the $/perf ratio of pre-builts that include IGPs.

Plainly put, it is a chip that will make AMD a lot of money even if people like us frown upon it... and its usefulness will only grow once GPU acceleration leaves the realm of Flash and starts to become more mainstream.

Due to consoles, it seems that the vast majority of games are and will remain lightly threaded, and so will not utilize even half the cores on this planned CPU.

Long story short, a chip like this should be a server/workstation CPU and not a consumer desktop one.
Laughing out loud...^^

How many cores does windows 7 use..? Will that benifit those who want to play BF3 & run xfire & record video..?

Or, is it that people buy cpu for past games..?

I hope with this "10 core" Processor AMD can figure out how to make their cores more efficient. Who cares if you have 10 cores, If an intel quad is speedier than what good is the extra 6 cores?
