@Wermad.

The 6990 will fit in my case easily. You'll be surprised by its potential!

Looks like it'll be the 6990 though. Ill look into 580 3GB Sli, it seems EVGA has a reference cooler on a 3GB card. That in Sli might be my best bet.

I don't think any solution maximizes that resolution for you. We find some titles need definitely more than 1.5GB at that resolution. Not all but some more recent ones for sure.

A single 590 or 6990 is not going to give you 60 fps either in all titles so your choices would eventually have to be SLI or CFX. With your setup though 8x PCI-e lanes will indeed gimp dual GPU cards and you may get no benefit or diminished benefit.

My advice is to get something workable now and cheap (6950s). Then upgrade with the next generations. No two card system is perfect for you.

sli 580 3gb. Amd drivers are still need a lot of work. Nvidia drivers are super stable.
post #15 of 39
HD6990 due to the fact they have 2GB VRAM.

If there exists a GTX590 with 6GB RAM (3gb each gpu) than grab it.

Or like someone posted above, GTX580 SLI 3GB would be the best option, due to more VRAM. At higher resolution eyefinity/surround the more vram the best.

Not only is the above statement completely off topic, it's also untrue.

6990 easily.

Ha! Have you tried to run three 6950s??? Bad drivers are enough for me to call it quits after less than two months of trying to get this to work properly. I've never had to fiddle around with so many settings before with nvidia and with my new cards. Your statement drools fanboysm. I have tried both setups and I offer my opinion based on personal experience.

I agree, for Vram and performance 2 x GTX580 3Gb's ram would be your best bet.

For the price of two GTX 580 3GB you can get 6990 + 6970 and still have money left.

Rocket science guys.

Not fan boy here, had nvidia card before my 3xHD6950, yet to see a driver problem. All games run fine, sides from GTA IV ELFC which is PC port, only runs fine with 1 card, gets choppy fps with crossfire, never owned sli to comment on that.

Dont know what you talking about.
