So EQ'ing is taboo now? Even some experienced audiophiles use EQ and only audio purists would not dare touch anything of the sort. And besides, these are phones we are talking about, not dedicated PMP's - it just turns out that Voodoo improves output by enabling drivers to the DAC. And DAC output does make a difference.

I was somewhat of a casual listener maybe 5 years ago and felt how Foolsmasher seems to feel about audio; used to just listen to music straight out of the box if you want to call it that. After I got into recording my own guitar music I learned about the different frequencies in sound and how to tweak the levels out on an EQ pretty efficiently and since then, I've done it for things as simple as playing music at a casual party and it makes a huge difference.

Care to outline a little what it "offers more?" Please don't disappear from OCN like others have when I ask this question. HTC Desire to this day has plenty of mods. Going to sleep; I'll check on thread updates tomorrow.

Exactly, go back and read my post. The guy thinks his Poweramp app is making the music sound "better".

You guys are really grasping for straws now. As if a real audiophile can't wait to get his hands on the latest android handset DAC with Poweramp.

Funny, my Desire HD is rooted and installed with CyanogenMod 7 and it runs beautifully. Smooth and consistent performance all around. And if you actually take a second look at how a rooted Android device stacks up against a jailbroken iPhone, you will see that Android does more - easier access to the filesystem, enabling full backup of the firmware and all apps in their current state, automation of phone features, and more.

What you do on your EQ is your own business, I'm happy that you like the way it sounds. It really is sort of a subjective thing.

I'm just saying I'd trust the way it sounds to a professional in the studio creating it.

Oh dear, here we go.

I am sort of an audiophile (Cowon S9, Sennheiser HD25-1 II, Little Dot MKIII amp, M-Audio Studiophile AV30 speakers, etc) and unless my ears are failing me, I can discern some differences between Android audio player apps. The deciding factor in this is the audio decoder communicating with the Android OS; if it's well-designed, then it could potentially make music sound better. So apps like PowerAMP and RockBox perform better than stock or other counterparts. This also happens with video player apps, where one may play MKV videos with ease while another may struggle. It's all in the creation of the app that can make or break media playback.

Sure overall SQ of any phone would be inferior to dedicated music players save for maybe the Samsung Galaxy S line, but they're good enough to be a secondary source. Hell, my ASUS Transformer has Voodoo installed and I can attest to the improvement. It overrides the digital output while also providing direct analog sound tweaking.

Well, need to sleep now. Returning tomorrow and hopefully, this thread is still open lol.

Foolsmasher, seriously... What he is most likely referring to is the fact that PowerAMP does include an EQ and the ability to tweak a hanful of sound options. I am currently using a MIUI ROM on my Xperia X10 and I use PowerAmp, even when both left flat and nothing changed I can tell the difference between the stock MIUI player and PowerAmp and the differences are only accelerated in PowerAmp's favour once the tweaking begins!

Hey, it's a real argument. It's not to say iOS doesn't have fragmentation, but it's far less. Android is an open platform, so any phone maker can make a phone regardless of hardware. This is more true in the handheld media player area. The stuff I've seen when looking for an Android handheld/mediaplayer/blablabla isn't as regulated as I'm apparently the only person who wants an android device that isn't a phone in this world. So I don't know if I'm grabbing a piece of crap that can do little more then mobile internet or if I'm getting a gem that will play everything ever.

iOS stuff is quite a bit more regulated, though obviously you have very little to choose from. But in the end, you can still play new games on 2nd generation iPod Touches. For the most part anyway. I'm sure soon new games will require some random version number of iOS, but at least you know you've got Angry Birds!

Don't get me wrong, I WANT an Android device, but my selection is VERY limited if I don't want to pay a premium for a non activated phone and I simply don't know what's good or not, while on the Apple side of things, 8GB 4th gen iPod Touch, simple as that.

No one should care about what other people want. They should care about what they want.
