no one wants a RIM phone but businesses and corporate customers will still buy them.

i own a black berry and an android phone.

as much as i like touch screens, i cannot type as fast and legibly as i can on a physical keyboard.

First misconception: Educated consumers buy Android. Anyone posting that is a fanboy, and you remarkably have the gall to point the finger at iOS owners as being fanboy.

I use an iPhone, Started with the Iphone 3G at release, and have had the 3GS since its release. It doesn't allow me massive amounts of customization or this that and everything else, but it serves its purpose as my phone, as well as offering me entertainment and some functionality. I am educated.

Sorry, had to clear that up. Pisses me off when people say elitist comments. Android is nice and serves its market. iOS is nice and serves its market, quit turning it into a "product A is better than product B hands down" when both are great products and do what they're intended to do.

I choose iphone because it has the largest selection of gaming apps. Until android market has around the same number of apps as iphone does, then i'll most likely make the switch. Also provided that android has the higher gaming phone specs aswell, and I would like to see the exclusive iphone apps ported to android.

Well, I can't help it when the numbers don't lie. In terms of hardware, it isn't wrong to say that high-end Android phones are superior to the iPhone 4. A Galaxy S II for example has dual-core 1.2 GHz Exynos processor, a brilliant Super AMOLED+ display on a 4.3" screen, and both benchmark and real-world tests put it at the top of the list as the most powerful smartphone to date.

Well, that is until Nvidia's Kal-El quad core processors start showing up late this Fall.

Right, its like comparing an oven and a microwave. Both are designed to cook and both do a great job at it... but I'd like to see you pop a bag of popcorn in your oven, or cook a turkey in the microwave. AKA they both serve their purposes and well.

Different strokes for different folks. With that said, I think as far as OS goes, Google is on top. Apple's OS just isn't open as it should be.

I'm sure this has been stated already, too lazy to dig through it all.

Is anyone surprised? How smart is the average user? You'd have to be pretty thick in the head not to be able to figure out how to use an iphone within the first 10 minutes. When I picked up a 3GS back in the day...within 10 minutes I felt like I knew the phone as if I've had it for years. Different story with Android now isn't it.

Apple has always been about clean looks, ease of use. Small wonder everyone wants one.

Google on the other hand, lets users do pretty much what they want for the most part. Tons of people buy android first then go to apple, why? It's simply easy to use, not everyone enjoys technology as much as we OCN'ers do.

Most people just want a phone that works, and is as simple as you can get. There are, however people like me who wants my phone to be customized exactly the way I like....with ease so I choose Android.

Not to say Android is complicated...

Those people are idiots. There's a lot of idiots in every camp. However, many people, such as myself, have actually owned both (recent) Android phones and iPhones. Android is a fun OS to customize and such. But I found the iPhone to be more simple and user-friendly, and I can get near the same level of customization if I want to with a jailbreak (which is quite easy -- go to jailbreakme.com and tap "install"). My iPhone is jailbroken and I have Adobe Flash (doesn't run well, but most Flash content doesn't on Android either, and I have a ClickToFlash-like software so I don't have my phone at full load draining the battery and making it run slow whenever I go to a webpage with Flash ads), widgets, drop-down settings and notifications (which, BTW, I'm pretty sure Android copied from SBSettings), etc.

The typical iPhone user (I'm not at all trying to insult anyone here. I'm talking about the TYPICAL user, not the OCN-level user) is without a doubt, a know-nothing douche. ASK the majority of iPhone fans why they think iPhone is better than Android and the response is: "iPhone is just better... it's the best like the iPod..." They don't come up with some detailed reasons as to what they think makes it better.
Those people are idiots. No offense to my friend, but he thinks that his HTC EVO is a "Droid", so there's ignorant people on both sides.

Likewise, I know a lot of people who will say the same thing about Android and Windows. People will say things like "iOS is proprietary crap" even though the only thing proprietary is a few APIs that you can get by becoming a registered iOS developer for $99. They'll say "you can't run Flash" even though 1) you can and 2) most content is available in HTML5 by now, and Flash is a terrible platform. Yes, I'll say it again: FLASH IS A TERRIBLE PLATFORM. Flash is a proprietary web standard -- something that should not exist. Flash is slow, buggy, hardware-intensive, and expensive. And you know how to get people to stop being dependent on it? Stop supporting it. It's like what AMD is pushing PC developers to do by making many core desktop CPUs -- code your programs to actually take advantage of modern computers.

Quote:
As for the pricing: Really, the iPhone costs the same CRAP as any Android phone. I'm sick of the iPhone idiots saying things like "lol iPhones are Lamborghinis some people can only afford Civics" when the iPhone is the same price as practically any Android phone (with a contract deal) -____- Get over yourself. You paid the same thing or less than me for your phone. I have the 4G dual-core 1.5GHz CPU with NV Tegra. I know which phone is better. Them defending their iPhone to the death only makes me see their fanboyism worse. I've had iPhones. I've had the same iPhone generation multiple times to give it second and third chances. No go for me.
Most Android phones are cheaper than iPhones, just not the high-end ones.

Specs mean nothing when the operating system has hardware intensiveness issues. In Geekbench, my MacBook Pro gets 3500 in Mac OS X and 2700 in Windows. Some people have run Android on iPhones and saw similar results -- it ran slower and the battery life was much worse. Besides, it's a phone. For almost everyone, the iPhone is smooth enough. I can't tell the difference between my iPhone at the stock 800 MHz or at 1 GHz. (However, the difference between my iPod touch at 600 MHz and 833 MHz is quite noticeable because it's an older, slower device running a new OS.) So while your phone may encode video faster, no one is encoding video on an iPhone. And remember the iPhone is getting a 1 GHz dual core in a couple months. Also, besides from a pure performance standpoint, your battery life must be pretty bad at 1.5 GHz with two cores.

The survey included ~4,000 people. Quite hilarious to me.

Latest market figures, I guess they go by actual sales and not surveys? I think Google will have some amazing unrevealed phone coming out with Ice Cream Sandwich close to iPhone 5's release.

Preference and sales are completely different. Most people want a Mercedes, but will settle with a cheap Japanese car because the Mercedes is too expensive. If you could buy a fully equipped Mercedes for $20k, everyone would have one.

Conversely, Android guys I know of state detailed reasons in choosing an Android phone over the iPhone. They comment on the hardware variety and screen size, ability to set up widgets and live wallpapers, the integration with Google services as well as overall selection of apps. And more surprisingly, they usually sport customized homescreens with different themes - some very coherent with the design.
That's because, again no offense, Android appeals to people who the general population thinks of as "nerds". Most people who actually care about their phone and use Android will, of course, know a lot about it. People who don't care much about their phone and use Android will be just as stupid as those iOS users.
