Indeed. I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth upgrading from the 3GS to the iPhone 4, since the difference in both hardware and software are incremental at best. And yet, people are haplessly falling in line to Apple stores in order to purchase the freaking white version of their devices. I mean, why???

Compare that to a massive hardware jump when upgrading with Android phones. Someone who upgrades from the original Galaxy S to the Galaxy SII would surely be thrilled of the better processor, superior screen, thinner profile and overall better performance than its predecessor. This is what I call a worthwhile purchase.

I think most of you don't understand that regular people don't know what a CPU is, and don't care at all what is in their phone as long as it works. Apple is the new religion and you have to buy their products to be part of the norm, that's why people want iPhones, because now their friends can admire them, even if you demonstrated to their face that the iPhone was inferior in every way to another phone they wouldn't care, because that phone isn't considered "cool" or whatever is the expression nowadays.

That's what I dislike about the general populace nowadays. Popularity over performance? Please.

Popularity with the ignorant populace who don't know squat about hardware specs vs price and performance in phone upgrades who would rather cater to the best advertisments from every new product from apple.

I'm sticking to my 3gs until iphone 5.

What a great thread to have on OCN. This certainly isn't asking for any flamewars.

I shopped all phone makers when I upgraded to iPhone 4 last year. The Droid X and EVO both felt much slower in operation than an iPhone, regardless of what a spec sheet says.

Outmatched handily because of screen size? That's like saying your 60'' Insignia LCD "outmatches" my 42'' Kuro Plasma in the bedroom. Not everyone wants to feel like they have a tablet computer in their pocket walking around. Their screen size was actually a con for me.

I'm sorry, but my 1 year old phone plays the same games as yours, accesses the same internet, and probably has more apps. The fact that I'd need to upgrade to newer hardware every couple of months to do the same things again, all while spending hundreds of dollars, is LAUGHABLE to me.

Except you don't need to upgrade, my HTC Dream (Fairly slow, even when it was released in 2008) still runs nearly everything, I'm only upgrading to a SGS2 now, far bigger than from a 3GS to an 4 (Essentially a better screen and an OC, whereas I'm getting a better screen, more internal memory, a dual core CPU and easier upgrades to Android 2.x versions without rooting) which is what I'd be doing if I was in the iOS camp, not to mention, I'm only upgrading every 2 or so years when my contract runs out.

Add in the fact my HTC Dream doesn't shatter when dropped like so many iPhone4s I've seen, and is built like a brick...I'd much rather it to an iPhone, let alone a fast as hell phone like the SGS2 or Desire S.

EXACTLY the point I was making. I wasn't insisting that iPhone owners are inferior in any way (to those that have been arguing against my reasoning). I was simply stating that the huge majority of iPhone owners feel like the iPhone is the absolute top dog, untouchable phone in every way possible, which is completely false as of the past 8-12 months, and they refuse to collaborate and agree on that out of pure fan blindness. You can explain to them all you want about the hardware differences and teach them what's better in which phone; there's no cure for blindness yet. I guess in the end I don't mind it one bit! I've profited so much from Apple products, so in a way I love the conformity there is out there of having Apple products!

The debates have been pretty mature and respectful so far.

LOL @ that. I'm bewildered when iPhone owners look at an EVO and say "ewww that's too big... it's like a brick" and what do they do? They turn around and buy those hideous tank-like Otterbox cases (I really don't see the craze over those). Dude. A tablet computer in your pocket? Don't kid yourself. Those larger screen phones are not even half an inch larger than an iPhone. I'd say the HD2/EVO/Droid X are the perfect sized smartphones to carry around. Now I have the G2x which is slightly smaller and, while I still love the phone, I miss my HD2's nice big screen.

Again on the price? What's laughable is that I went from a single core, 1GHz phone to a dual core 1GHz, NVIDIA powered phone for -$100, and I guarantee I could have gotten it for less than that. (If you missed it: I sold my HD2s for $250 each, and spent $150 on 2 new G2xs.) When I had the 3G and the 3GS came out, I was lucky to get $100 for it.

I'm looking forward to the options available next April when my current contract expires. Hoping for iPhone 5 or something running on Android that actually has a responsive touchscreen. Nothing I have tried in the past even comes close to comparing the touchscreen's responsiveness on the iPhone, and that's the main reason I bought it vs an Android phone. I'll definitely be checking out all of the options on both sides of the fence when the time comes for it though.

Oh, and definitely want 3D on my phone, whichever one I get.
