[VideoGamer] Square Enix: Next gen to bring 'a big leap' in graphics - Page 3

The only thing Square Enix-related on my mind is Just Cause 2 and hopes for 3.

There was some depth to XIII that I enjoyed, such as Synthesis Abilities and swapping Paradigms. Still, the system was lacking compared to a more traditional job system and the variety of skills/abilities left a lot to be desired.

Final Fantasy XIII, while being a decent game IMO, certainly wasn't the Final Fantasy I'd been waiting for this generation. That looks to be Final Fantasy Versus XIII, even though they've scrapped the traditional world map. It sounds like Nomura knows what fans want and they're aiming to please, albeit in a fairly slow manner.

Do you really think that's true? with games like crysis, metro 2033, crysis 2 w/ dx11, the witcher 2 and battlefield 3? Not to mention many other games that look many times better on PC than on consoles. Our hardware may not be getting used to it's full potential, but to say 'nothing happens' is just plain wrong.

K. Back on topic.
Considering FF14, am I the only one who thinks that Square Enix should focus more on groundbreaking gameplay than groundbreaking graphics?

Claim vague statement. Make news headlines. First you sully Drakengard with its sequel, then you don't make #3 to fix mistakes? Shame on you.

These games don't look THAT good. Especially all the footage we've seen of BF3. And ALL of them would look 10 times better if running on a console never had to be a design consideration in the first place.

And nothing really does happen. Take Crysis 2 for example. The graphics were noticeably worse than Crysis without the 1.9 patch and new textures. Even with them, the graphics do not soar past Crysis. In fact, there are still a few aspects of Crysis that look noticeably better in my opinion, especially explosions and textures. The high res texture upgrade still didn't help a lot of the widely used ones. For example, the grass texture. It is widely used throughout the entire game, and is the same texture from the original Crysis. And it is lower resolution that the one in Crysis, and the texture upgrade didn't help it. There are lots of other examples.

Cavia made Nier though, which was better than both Drakengard games.

To be honest, knowing what content was censored in the overseas release of Drakengard just ruined that game for me. Not things that I want in my games, that's for sure.

Better and faster hardware does mean better game play. They can use more complicated animation loops, build larger worlds, have more enemies on a map that have more advanced AI systems, better physics etc. And they'd definitely be able to create better VFX scenes, the VFX in games have to find 'cheats' to get things to look right, and sometimes they storyboard amazing VFX scene's but find out they can't do it cuz it's to resource demanding.
