Worrying recurring issues with 7 64-bit (BSoD)

Thread Starter
I got a new computer a week ago:

Antec Three Hundred Versatile Mid Tower Gamer Case
ANTEC TriCool 120mm 3-Speed Case Fan
GSKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 DIMM (x2)
Asus DRW-24B1ST 24x DVD-RW Drive, SATA, Black, OEM
Antec True Power New 650W Power Supply w/ Quad +12V, 120mm Fan
GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 w/ Dual DDR3 2133, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, 1394, CrossFireX / SLI
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (64-bit) DVD - OEM
Intel Coreâ„¢ i5-2500K Processor, 3.30GHz w/ 6MB Cache
eVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI
GSKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 DIMM

Got problems building it up, so I paid a guy at a store to build it for me for 30$. Now it worked. I installed 7 64-bit (legit), and then everything was fine... at first.

Now I have some seriously annoying, recurring problems.

-For 2 mornings now, when I open up my computer (doesn't happen in daily reset for some reasons), the screen gets stucks longer when detecting CD-roms/HDDs etc, and once it skips that, it tries to load the operating system, and fails. (system boot failure). No amount of reset fixes that.

So I put the 7 CD in, and try to repair: He quickly finds a booting problem and proposed to repair the issues. If I click "repair and restart", it tells me something like "can't backup startup" and does nothing. Then I have to try somehow and fiddle with it, reseting and going back a 2nd time, and that 2nd time it'll fix it and I can boot it back normally.

Both times, it acted that way, not working at first and then finally working.

-Another serious issue that might be related are random blue screens. I monitor my temperatures and it has nothing to do with it, every piece can be under 40 degrees and I get a blue screen. They are pretty rare, I only got 2 so far, one of them said it "failed to write a dump" or something, and the other did give me some report though I have no idea how to even read the files.

I've also seen 0x0000000f in either the bluescreen or a startup error that tells me it couldn't read the HDD or some such, if it means anything.

I'm sorry if this is slightly confusing. These issues are killing me, and I don't want them to get worse. Anyone can help?

Looks like a bad motherboard, probably something to do with the sata controller.

Ask him if he can pop a new board in there and see if it solves the problems.

Sounds like you have some flaky hardware. I've never had issues with 64-bit Windows 7 and I use it on all the computers I use regularly.

Yeah this is definitely not a software problem.

Try swapping out the sata cable to the hard drive. If that doesn't help, choose another sata port and try it. You either have a bad sata cable, power/sata cable isn't firmly seated or you got a bad port. Or worse would be the hard drive is maybe dying.

Everything is quite new, HDD didn't come with the computer but is only from January. And I'd rather not believe that the motherboard is the problem just yet. It would be a lot more trouble than I want.

I'm going to hope and guess that its just the cable or that one port that isn't right. I did use an old sata cable so I'll just try one that came with my stuff.

Yes but a bad cable wouldn't cause BSODs. It would just lose the connection to the drive, much like disconnecting a USB stick without ejecting it. It's bad not to eject it first, but the computer can survive without it. A bad controller, on the other hand, could definitely cause a BSoD.

Look up the SMART data for your HDD and paste it here. Try replacing the SATA cable first, sometimes they can be dodgy and cause issues.

Alright, thanks guys, I replaced the cable with a brand new one that came I think with the Power Supply (or some other part if it wasn't that), and plugged it somewhere else.

All working for now, I'll see if there are any issues until tomorrow and hopefully, there won't be any.
