current cpu VS Phenom II X2 560 - Page 3

Don't do it. Not only are you losing a core, but money, and just for a few hundred MHz. Let me put it this way. If I could trade 500MHz (or even settle at stock of 3.33GHz) for a third core on my CPU, I would.

Getting the quad core CPU is a bit better, but something tells me the CPU isn't lacking cores, but rather IPC, if it's bottlenecking the GPU yet isn't at 100%, so that won't fix the Far Cry 2 problem (but I could be wrong, I'm not sure how many threads/cores Far Cry 2 benefits from, I'm just going on your explanation of it).

In my opinion, either get 4GB RAM (this wouldn't even set you back all the way so maybe sell the CPU and get 4GB RAM and that quad core CPU), sell the GPU and get a better one, maybe sell the monitor and get a cheap 16:9 one (?), or save it.

Your NB is your link to your RAM from your CPU. Default is 2000Mhz. This can cause a RAM bottleneck when RAM speeds are higher but since you're on DDR2 I don't think this is the problem at all. You could still benefit from increasing the NB to around 2400Mhz at least. I assure you your 710 is NOT bottlenecking an 8800GT.

If you must spend money on a CPU, the best option for you hands down is this:
