I can't seem to get my voltage where I want it.

I've had this system OCed to 4.5Ghz for a little while now and It has passed all of my stress tests without any problem. When I run prime95 for 12+ hours it never uses more than 1.296v at 100% load. I just tried IntelBurnTestV2 and wow... The voltage jumped up to 1.32v.

Why is it using so much more power during the intel burn test? What settings can I change to lock the max voltage at 1.296 to see if it's stable. I should mention that when I use Prime95 I am still able to surf the web but the intel test completely slows everything.

Have you made sure that LLC is off?

Yeah, loadline, aka LLC/VDROOP makes your voltage never at a fixed, static figure because it will adjust and try to balance things out. This setting is amongst the few that is responsible for things like the incorrect CPU-Z voltage readings, etc.

Turn it off.

Wow, there is a lot of misinformation on a lot of overclocking guides. Most guides I've seen for SB have it set to ultra or extreme. I'll turn it off and give it a shot. Thanks

EDIT: Ouch, my voltages seem pretty random with LLC disabled. They are jumping all over the place when I'm both idle and testing... Could speedstep be causing this?

With LLC Disabbled and speed step/all other energy saving features disabled (for the time being) my idle voltage is 1.302 but drops down to 1.256 under load. Not sure what is causing this.

EDIT: Regardless of what I enable/disable, my idle voltage is still higer than my load voltage with LLC disabled. Not sure how I can fix this.

You should NOT be disabling C states or speedstep to get the best voltage scaling. It's not the same with Sandy Bridge as it was before... As for this issue I'm really not sure, I almost don't feel like its a BIOS CPU setting because why would Prime95 report one thing then IntelBurnTest another? They are both 100% load.

It's not like we're discussing the peak voltage at 100% under various settings (LLC on, LLC off, C states on/off, etc)... we're talking about the voltage at 100% under 2 different programs.

Could it be software related??

Right now I am experimenting with LLC at 50% and things seem pretty stable so far. I can't get an ounce of voltage stability when I disable it completely, it jumps around too much. As far as prime95 vs intel burn test, IBT is truly putting my system under max load. Even going to Google.com takes a while because all computing resources are being used up. When prime95 is running I can still browse perfectly fine and even run photoshop without any slowdowns. Very weird since both show 100% usage...

Yeah I've noticed some very counter-intuitive results with running stress testing programs. I guess it depends on how the processor is used.

What's bothering me and preventing me from gaining a full understanding of this power delivery system Intel designed is that I just don't know what the hell these options really DO from a control theory perspective. I don't really physically know how LLC works, I just know what people say happens when you use it, and it eliminates vdroop. I guess I need to start with getting a full understanding of what vdroop does past "helps reduce voltage spike under load"... which is the barest of bare minimum explanations you can give.

LLC could be doing a number of things, and without knowing what its true technical purpose is, I can't really say much. All I know is its supposed to help with Vdroop.

It's pretty funny how I read an article here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110 from an ASUS tech rep and in his guide he essentially indicates that they used trial and error for testing various overclocking methods. So even ASUS doesn't really know what these options do? lol?

Maybe I'm making it more complicated than it needs to be, but I feel like an 8 year old kid pushing random buttons trying to see what makes the light go green.... and this is after reading tons and tons of articles. By now all I know is what's probably going to work, but I have such a minimal physical understanding that it's hard to say I know more than "jack *****".

It's probably my fault though. I'm more than likely looking for information in the wrong places.
