Civilization V running slow?

Just bought this off steam a few days ago and I really enjoy it. However, after about 500 turns the game starts to slow down taking almost 10 seconds between turns?

I'm not sure if that's normal, I'm gaming on my sig rig.
8 Player 15 city state, standard map size. Thoughts?

It does that to me too. I think Civ V just does that sadly.

Probably because the game is coded in C/Python or CPython which makes it kinda slow... like java, for comparison, if you've ever used open office, it often feels sluggish.

500 turns seems a bit late for the slowdowns from what I've read. wink.gif

There's a lot of calculations to be done in the Civ games, rather than rendering like in many other games. I have to believe that's the reason it, and StarCraft, slow down with so many units and things to handle.

Appreciate the replies guys, I guess it's just the game then. Haven't had anything slow me down until Civ V so I was a bit surprised.

frown.gif I'd probably love the game more if this wasn't the case. My CPU barely reaches 30% between turns.

I have this problem too. wait time gets longer the larger the map, more players, or later in the match.
my CPU usage is around 40% and GPU usages about 60% for each GPU.

i don't know where the bottleneck is. i installed the game on a RAID 0 array but i dont' see the HDD light lit up when it's calculating. also it only use about 1.3 GB of ram.

When you get late in the game with a quite a few civs it gets really slow.


Also It stopped working for me in DX11 when I am late in the game. It will just crash. I can almost sense it coming but there is no way I can finish a "huge map" game in DX11. Lately I just been starting it up in DX9 just to not bother with some of the problems.

I wish they would fix this game. Such an awesome game with such poor development
