You don't have to buy the Special Edition...

This. They're going to actually have to upgrade the engine several times during its lifetime, prevent gameplay from becoming stale, keep the content rolling... it's a bit of a lofty goal but it's not impossible.

Personally, I hope TOR runs for decades. I love Star Wars, and if a company can come along and do an MMO the right way with a Star Wars theme, and keep that game alive and kicking for that long, that'd be spectacular.

More evidence that Bioware is completely out of touch with reality. What were they thinking?

Monthly fees over $5 are too much for me. Makes me feel like I'm throwing my money away. If there werent monthly fees I'd get this game.

How to make this last for decades?
Assuming the game is actually good, these will have to be in place.

- Free 3 month trial
- $5 subscription
- Graphical upgrades (it already looks dated)
- New cheap expansion packs

If it's good, I would be willing to give this a go. And I don't like the idea of subscription or MMORPGs

Since it is heavily story based, as long as they continue to add planets (500 planets to explore would certainly be nice, especially 500 bioware made planets) I can see it holding peoples attention.

I'm routing for them to accomplish this but I don't see it happening. Game and technology advance so quickly and its only going to increase in the coming decades.

I will give it a try. I can guarantee I won't play for more than a year max.

It always amazes me when people complain about a 15 dollar monthly service fee.

I've spent more than that on so called "free-to-play" games than 15 dollars per month. I spend significantly more than that on fast food on a weekly basis and that only gives me minutes worth of satisfaction in comparison.

I'm a broke college student living off what I can get, but I could still easily manage 15 dollars per month by periodically rummaging my house for loose change every couple of days.
