[CVG] Mass Effect 3: Can it sell big - without selling out? - Page 7

I preferred ME1, I preferred origins.
Though something in the middle between ME1 and ME2 would be perfect...

ME2 just wasn't that great of a game, I wanted them to tighten up the shooter mechanics, but not at the expense of all of the other gameplay that made ME1 so amazing.

EDIT: wow just remembered the horrible skill tree...Everyone ends up with the same exact skills at the end of the game...there are no choices for play style.
You were doing it wrong.

If you were paying attention, biotics reacted with each other. Pull/Singularity intensified the others and caused small explosions that affected the group. I could easily pull 3 or 4 people into a singularity and take half of the groups life with a strong warp.

The ONLY things ME2 was missing was a better skill tree and 1 more mission related to the main story. ME2 addressed ME1's main flaw which was the massive drop off in quality from the main missions to the secondary ones. That centered around the reuse of the same 'dungeon' areas for secondary missions: The 1 adrift cargo ship reused some 10 times, the 2 off-world bunker bases reused some 20 times and the 1 underground dig site used some 10 times.

Plus, once you messed with the config file for ME2 it only got that much better. I turned off shields blocking biotics, balanced out the guns a bit like the anti-material sniper rifle and some of the shotguns, made enemies stronger, gave them regenerating shields ( including bosses ) and significantly reduced the auto-healing speed making med kits a necessity again.

But you make the assumption that everyone played using Biotics. I played solider class in ME 1 and 2 even through my replays I stuck with solider. For the most in ME1 the skill tree was only useful up to a certain point. Once you hit it, it was pointless. For the soldier class in ME1 it was stupid how you HAD to raise your pistol skill to use a shotgun granted it only took a few points to unlock the shotgun. Those points could've been put in to something useful such as health or something. In ME2 even though the skill tree was scaled down, you noticed the differences between the skill more easily.

Again I'm only speaking from the solider perspective. I have my team take care of the biotics and tech for me. Otherwise if I did everything, what use would they be? I tried the other classes for the first few fight in ME 1, wasn't my play style.

I game rather late in the ME series. I was feeling ill and without anything to do at home I stumbled across ME2. I played it and loved it. I played it 3 times until I decided to play ME1. When I played ME1 I found the controls horrible. I could not adjust. Eventually I got my controls like in ME2. ME1 has better story! The Ilos mission drove me crazy! Epic! EPIC!
@Wishmaker: Same story as you, bro.
I started with ME2 because a friend of mine loaned me his copy. I was hooked. I completed the game 3 times, once with a Soldier and twice with a Vanguard. I found the game to be Epic beyond proportion. Then when I started playing ME1 I found my teammates to be utterly useless as anything but cannon fodder. But then as I got into the groove, I felt ME1 had a much more diverse and richer "RPG" feel to it. The options to customize weapons by adding mods to them was pretty awesome, took me a while to figure it out though.
I just got off from playing through the first time.

The Normandy has just been grounded and Anderson has offered to help, when I started ME2, I felt Udina was a bureaucratic idiot, but now I am definitely not going to vote him ot the Council. (:<

I feel they oversimplified the RPG elements in the sequel but bettered the combat.
I now feel bad playing ME2 before ME1, wish there was a way to wipe my memory...
Hmmm.....

They fixed one thing, and broke another. The complete lack of plot/cliffhanger in ME2. You're told exactly what you'll be doing for the rest of the game at the very beginning. You finally have your "team" and all of them need baby-sat. The awful skill system in ME2. Sorry ME1 did it better IMHO. Granted ME1's inventory system was the suck. OTOH ME2's mining game adds roughly 50% of the play time to the game, and gets old really fast.

I agree with someone way above. Bioware's games have absolutely plummeted in quality from KotOR 1. Things like plot and character development get increasingly sidelined...or explorable world space. Games lose any and all replay value...in addition to Bioware hash-summing config files to kill off mod-communities.

I ain't paying pre-order for ME3. I may not even buy it. I'll wait til it is released and see what Bioware chooses to "fix" next time.

I don't think Bioware should be allowed to make sequels for their games, they always screw it up...and now a third iteration in a series is going to be 3x as worse as the original.

It will sell as well as ME2. If people didn't buy ME2 they won't buy 3.
