Antec PSU

Thread Starter
I bought an Antec cp-850 (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817371024) and it just arrived today, I've realized that it won't fit in the case I ordered which is not here yet(http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811108190), should I cancel the case and get one that fits the psu or send back the psu? Any adivce will be appreciated.

Get a new PSU. Antec's proprietary PSU sizes are a load of hogwash.

CP850 is a very good power supply, but $140 for one is not a particularly special price. Also, unless you've got like SLI GTX 580 it's really unlikely you need 850W, so a more reasonable replacement (particularly if it's not from newegg.ca) may be significantly cheaper anyway.

What are you going to be powering?

If you wanted to use the In Win case, no reason to ditch that plan unless you'd rather have a P183 or 1200 or whatever else that fits CPX.
You're limited to the Antec P183, P193, DF-85, & 1200

So if you don't want those cases; get a new PSU.

That PSU is weird, I have to say. What's up with that fan?

Your case is a full-tower. That is the biggest form factor case and should easily be able to accommodate all power supplies out there since it's meant to be able to take on E-ATX motherboards and other giants.

I would say that PSU is something out of the ordinary and you should get a different one, since some of the reviewers have even said it's massive (and I doubt all of them have a case of your size). It is very odd, and it's not your case's problem imo, since the PSU mounting area shouldn't be too small at all for the majority of PSUs.

How much power are you looking at? Does it have to be 850w as you're running dual graphis cards? I'd recommend this Seasonic one if you want the best of the best at a good price tag: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151087

I don't really care about the case, i got this psu for $109, i didn't order from newegg. Think it will be a fine PSU? Maybe i dont have to send it back?

Its not the size of the PSU, its the area in the back where you mount it. Look at this video:

CPX is antecs own "standard", I would send the PSU back I had a hx1000w and I used it for 1 day and returned it no problem, I only had to pay shipping.

Otherwise you are limited to antec cases with the CPX mounting setup..I have a 1200 and I wouldnt want that PSU.

Most are mounted at the bottom nowadays, so that issue along is already a sign of something...
That video is just outdated imo.

In this case, that Antec PSU sets its own form factor and size. It is strange because the majority of good power supplies from Corsair and even the Antec newpower ones aren't like this.

I'd just send it back and get a better, more reputed PSU like a Seasonic X-750 which is priced just as competitively on newegg.
