Have you overclocked your card?

Overheating could be a factor, but so could things like a bad OC, voltages and even the drivers.

it was overclocked till a few seconds ago its spitting out straight up artifacts blank triangles as stuff all over the ground and some white ones too till i backed down to 700Mhz core and 900Mhz memory its strange it was stable at 735/1100 for months and now all of a sudden its not even with aftermarket cooling (thermalright HR-03 GT) and 8800's have no voltage controls.

my temps for GPU are maximum 45C even during full load

If it's through Steam, try a cache verification. I myself have actually had atifacts due to a corrupt download.

Obviously, if that isn't the issue, there's something going on with your proc or card.

It could even be getting too much voltage now even if you went back to stock, it's also entirely possible your proc OC is no longer stable and/or the card's dying.

do you have those tiny heatsinks on the RAM chips?

and a fan blowing directly over them?

Those aluminum ram sinks do a worse job than the stock cooler. I know that when I switched from those thermalright memory sinks to a uni-sink I gained another 30mhz or so in overclocking headroom on the memory.

No, I had it mounted in an Antec 1200 with a Yate Loon d12sl mounted on the HDD rack right across from the vrms and a Scythe S-flex 1900rpm on an HR-03.

I would rather use some enzotech copper heatsinks on the memory. I had some Mos-c1 sinks on the vrms and noticed next to no difference between those and the uni-sink. Those little copper sinks are impressive.

cool ... so you're saying the good quality copper ones like the enzos perform on par with the uni-sink, but the cheap aluminum ones are worse? I have some Enzotech MOS-C10's (as well as the cheap aluminum ones and the enzos look like they have much ore surface area.

Yup, that seems to be the case. I was really impressed with those copper sinks.
