pulling product key from old hd - Page 3

But i think you should still be able to activate your OEM copy atleast twice. I have done with Vista and Win7 after changing motherboards. The only time when i had to phone up was after i tried activating Win7 2 times in one day due to my p67 gigabyte failing on me.

There's can.. and then there's legally can. This site is a stickler for laws and EULAs.

Google is your friend. That's all I'm saying.

I dont have the new mobo yet. Im not trying to get the key from the sig rig. Im using the sig rig to pull the key from an old drive which had vista installed. fyi I dont have any kind of install disks on me.

You think I can boot from the old drive and just try to view the product key through the control panel?

edit: I have googled the heck out of this topic. The same info everywhere.

You are correct my friend. I am so tiard of seeing this misconception. Many think just because you buy another motherboard or hd, that legally you are suppose to buy another copy of windows. That just isnt true.

Tell all the people that have heard this straight from Microsoft reps that they're wrong.

I went through 3 motherboards and 3 CPU upgrades with my first OEM copy of winXP

All I did was call M$ and they gave me a new activation key each time.

Some one thought it was a good idea to take it off the tower and place with all the paper work that came with the computer. All that was thrown out.

That is how it should be each time for each person. Just let your product work.
