Hey everyone. Just put together the setup that is in my sig. Now I want to OC and don't know much of OC'ing. What do I need to go about starting this? Also what are some basic tips and whatnot?

well your board doesn't have a suffiecent power phase to overclock safely, it will most likely burst into flames, even running 6 cores on it with your proccessor is dangerous at stock, lock 3 of your cores to be safe, look here, http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/94...fety-125w.html

look down the list, guy killed his at stock! lock some cores now!

Ditch that MSI board and buy one that's at least 8+2. Make sure it is NOT MSI.

Yeah I plan on getting a new mobo next pay. Grabbed this one because it was cheap, and something to get up and running. I personally hate everything about MSI, but like I said needed to grab something fast and I got it for 60 bucks. Any suggestions on a Mobo to upgrade to? I want to get something I can ride on for a while, so I am not really worried about price.

Bulldozer ready. AM3 is going to be dead soon, so being AM3+ ready is the only real future proof ability w/ AMD atm.

Ouch, MSI does have pretty bad rep with their motherboards and 6-cores, but they made some of the best GPUs in the last two gens. Stick to Asus or Gigabyte for your new motherboard.

As for OCing, I suggest you read a lot of the guides in the AMD section. It's easier to learn and understand how to OC, than to just get settings from others and not know what to do in case your OC goes wrong.

If anyone wants to know, according to my observations as listed in the VRM safety thread I have created, the MSI 870-G45 and related boards have the highest VRM failure rate of all the finicky low end MSI boards with problems I have seen.

I don't recommend even continuing to run your 1090T with that motherboard. There have been some cases when these boards blew themself to smithereens on a stock x6. These motherboards work fine for lower TDP processors; as placeholders I wouldn't exactly put my trust on the table.

NCIX in Canada sells various AMD AM3+ boards including:
Sabertooth 990FX - $207
GA-990FXA-UD3 - $155
GA-990XA-UD3 - $142
GA-970A-UD3 - $110

Thanks for the info XD. Well for now I have no choice but to run this Mobo, not because I want to but because my wallet calls for it. So I won't touch any OC'ing until I upgrade I suppose, which should be in about 2 weeks time. Anything else I should know about? Any thing else I could add to this to pick it up?

make sure you have mosfet cooling and if not purchase some heatsinks, better cooling usually means lower voltages so get your mounting right and your TIM perfect, thin enough and no air bubbles, figure out best fan config's for best temps and so on, my motherboard is a good board and AM3+ bios beta is out, they are also good value, so check them out, also look at 990fx boards if you can afford one.

Hmm ok, Yeah I knew I wanted to get a new mobo from the get go, and the last couple of days I was actually looking at the Sabertooth 990fx. Is there anything else I could look at that would be at that level? I am keeping future upgrades in mind as well.
