Radeon HD 6850. Dilemma

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from my 9400 gt to a Radeon HD 6850. I posted a thread earlier this month looking for answers and I was about to purchase a 6770 for around $125. Well I now have more money to spend. Around $200 dollars.

My dilemma is I have a 450w psu. I would like to buy this GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131374. The minimum requirements for the psu are 450w. This would be great. but I was also looking to maybe get the same card from XFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150515. This thing has 2 fans and a double lifetime warranty. The only problem is that the minimum psu requirements are 500w.

So I guess I have 2 options:

Option 1: Buy this card from PowerColor. I have the necessary psu requirements.

OR

Option2: Get the same card BUT from XFX. I get 2 fans and a better warranty. I would need to upgrade my PSU, so I'm thinking this 550w one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371016.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks

the 6850 should run fine on your BFG, if it's a decent quality psu.

I don't see much difference from the XFX one, having additional cooling power with those fans isn't going to use up so much more power. I'd say ignore the minimum PSU requirement, since they tend to be inaccurate most of the time. You'll be fine with the 550w one.

I would go for a 6870. You can find them around the $200 mark now or less and they come with Dirt3 code for free. I think your stock PSU is fine also, unless you really push the card and CPU OC.

Oh I only have one 6-pin connector on my psu so the 6870 wouldn't work

use a molex to pci adapter, an antec truepower 650w would be good if you want a nice psu upgrade, then buy a 6870 with dirt 3 free? or a 6850.

I'd do this instead of the XFX, personally.
