wait i just look up on wiki. DDR4 maxes out at 4266 MHz. faster than all retail CPUs!
That's what I'm talkin about. Hexa channel DDR4 4266mhz at cas 7 to go with my 16 core 32 thread dumptruck processor(aka bulldozer 3rd generation)!!!

That's a long time between when DDR3 came out to get to DDR4.

DDR4 was used on some. I know there were some ATI 4xxx series cards with DDR4, but I think they were the lower end cards of the series...like the 4670 and such. I purchased a few of them. Might have been on more. It was probably on some 3xxx series cards as well, but I never messed with those. I don't think I've seen DDR4 on nVidia though.

I think DDR5 just came out soon after DDR4 so they moved to that in a hurry.

DDR4 system memory though...I am not sure that this is all that great. it will mean even slower timings and if AMD keeps up with its tradition of liking tight timings this could hurt the AMD side of things a little, but help Intel. Hopefully Bulldozer on and on will jump on the MHz wagon.
