Well, what are we doing that requires 4.0ghz?

I doubt it's temps, so your probably right. Different chips just OC better. The good news is, there is no real world difference from 3.8 to 4.0ghz.

Your temps are good but I'm a little concerned that your H50 doesnt cool as much as my Xigmatek Dark Knight. 32c idle 60c load. Try redoing your thermal paste, keep your voltages below 1.4v(starts to get real hot after that), and make it so that your cpu is first in line if you have it going to more than one thing.

Interesting. My 1100T@4ghz did the same exact thing when I was running my previous cooler (zalman 9700nt). When I ran prime, my temps shot up pretty fast and it shut down shortly after it peaked 60c. I dropped it back down to 3.3ghz until I recently upgraded coolers to the corsair H80. I am now @4ghz 24hr prime stable with the same settings.

Good to hear someone else has been through the same thing, but I dunno if I could commit myself to abandoning the H50 after a week. ;_;

I'm hoping that more ghz will loosen the bottleneck on my gpus and let them soar like the eagles they are =D. I just really want 3DMark11 to be proud of me.

Aye, I've dropped the voltage down to 1.4 and, much like Icarus chasing the sun, am trying for 3.9 ghz. So far we're an hour into Prime and the highest temp is 58. Keeping my fingers crossed.

while it might not be flaming hot there is still a chance the vrms can catch the motherboard on fire seeing as it's an MSI motherboard with only 4+1 power phase and a 4ghz OC on an x6 is kind of asking for it too.

I'm curious what your ambient temps are like.. I had a coolit eco during winter through spring and I never saw temps reach those levels, but I imagine in summer my temps would have skyrocketed.

Yeah that board is not the greatest for a Thuban.

I would back off on the OC before things really do catch on fire.
