so what if i bought the 55-250mm for out doors AND a 50mm for indoor stuff? and whats wrong with the 28-105mm on 30D?

i'll take my chances on ebay. i only buy expensive stuff from top rated sellers anyway, and the only time i got scammed i got my money back
The beauty of an interchangeable lens system is to change lenses as the need arises.

Of course you could go with one of the 18-200s that are out there but I wouldn't if you want image quality. The 18-55 and 55-250 are excellent together to start out with and honestly that is as cheap as I'd go. T

Throw in a fast prime like the 50 1.8 if you shoot in low light at lot or better yet, get an external flash that lets you bounce.

I would not buy from ebay. Even high rated stores have been known to be taken over by scammers. Buying used on photography forums will get you the gear for a very similar price with a much smaller risk of being scammed.

There are tons of old lenses you can get in addition to it, for super cheap. They won't be of the greatest quality, but at least they're better than nothing. The old 28-90 lenses used to be kit lenses for film rebels, and sell for just a few bucks (the body and lens together go for under $100, that's how cheap they are).

Check out this list.

FYI, Target has been selling the 55-250 for $149.99 in store on sale for the last month or so (if you can find one). If you were really wanting to pick one up, it's your best bet. About what people are asking for them used, but you get it BNIB w/ warranty, etc.

18-55 + 55-250 is a perfect, relatively inexpensive pairing to start out with. If you're patient and scour the intrawebz, you should be able to find both for ~$200 (used of course)
