temperature opinion

Thread Starter
Hello.. I have as my first attempt at watercooling....

Black Ice GTX Xtreme 360 Radiator
Swiftech Apogee XT (Rev 2) High Performance CPU Waterblock
Swiftech MCP655-B 12v Water Pump

I have idle temperatures that sit around 35C... Load goes up to 51C.. quick to go back down though so I know thats at least working good.

My northbridge, runs pretty warm between 60-80C... Would this be having an effect on my CPU temps considering its so close? I do have a fan running on it so it doesnt overheat.

-Would getting a northbridge waterblock drop my cpu temps more?
-I dont like the backplate the waterblock comes with.. would a replacement for this do well too?

Thanks for your opinions..

getting a waterblock almost always drops temps (assuming you have sufficient radiation/pump pressure) and there are plenty of different style backing plates. if you don't like the backing plate then find another or make one yourself. You're not required to use the one that is provided at all... this is modding... mixing and matching is half the fun. But anyways your temps look fine. 80C is pretty high, but I wouldn't worry too much unless it reached 90, but if you really just can't stand it then stick a waterblock or better heatsink (that actually would most likely be the cheapest route and would suffice quite well. Zalman and Logisys both make decent ones.)

Cooling your northbridge would help your NB temp but not your CPU because if it is in the same loop as your CPU, your NB will drop additional heat to your loop hence not helping your CPU temperature. Why don't you like your backplate? Im not too sure if other backplates are compatible, i mean they all have the same holes right?
