How to tell if Alienware is refurbished?

Hi guys, I was going to get a M15x alienware laptop used, but the seller told me he's NOT the original owner and it's actually had 1-2 other owners. It's in brand new condition - which is weird and makes me nervous it has some flaw- and he said he wasn't sure if it was bought new or dell outlet etc.....

How can I verify this? Can I use the Serial # ? Is there some website? Does alienware throw stickers or print something on the laptop if it is refurb?

Which sucks because he could just peel the sticker off and No one would ever know.... soooo???? frown.gif

He took the sticker off? This just sounds really fishy. If you are concerned on money, I would browse other sales. But I would buy from the, oh wait. It seems as if there are no listings for the M15x on the Dell outlet. Weird

I don't know if he "took the sticker" off. When I asked him if he was the original owner, he said no, that he bought it off someone on hardforums (computer sell and trade website).

So I don't like the fact that it has been passed around multiple owners. And I was just thinking to myself if they put a sticker on the bottom on the laptop for a refurbished model ( I think they put a green sticker on the bottom), he could thereotically just tear it off, and then I don't know how I would verify it....

Yeah I don't know. It comes with the manual, battery, and all the goodies, do refurbs usually come with that stuff? Sigh....

No one seems to know how to verify Alienware laptops on whether there legit or not, and it seems everyone floating around nowadays if refurbed since they discontinued the model.....

I see 2 on the dell outlet. (m15x) both refurb....

My brother's GF had an R2 m15x, and it had to be replaced 3 times. On the third time I called for her and explained that it was BS that a top end computer should need to be replaced 3 times in 5 months. They upgraded to an m17x R3 for free with several upgrades including the GPU.

Unfortunately the POS was blue screening straight out of a retail box..no refurb bs. It seems that the Alienware brand has taken a huge hit since Dell bought them. Their customer service is very good if you buy the premium warranty (recommended if you buy them).

Long story short, I have no faith in Alienware laptops anymore.

OP: Base the price of the laptop off the pictures, and what information he/she is willing to provide, and of course the seller's REP from heatware, etc.
