Which is better to choose?

I have two choices here and need to choose for my new system. Budget only allows me to buy used product which are as below:

1. G.Skill Phoenix Pro 120GB + WD 1 TB Caviar Black

2. WD Raptor 300GB + WD 500GB Caviar Black + WD 1 TB Caviar Black.

Those two are level in price as of used items. Plan to use the Phoenix Pro or Raptor for booting, multimedia, gaming etc.. Thanks for your input..

I would get the G.Skill Pheonix Pro 120gb + WD 1TB Caviar black.

An SSD is faster than a 10000rpm HDD. You can always buy another hard drive if you need more storage space.

If you run out of space on the SSD its possible to boot your games VIA your other hard drives. But it is more of a hassle. Unless you plan on installing more than 90gb (Assume around 30gb will be used up by OS) of games then go for option 1.

I moved from a 300gb VelociRaptor to an SSD about 1.5 years ago and there was a very noticeable increase in speed. I don't know much about G.Skill SSDs, but I'd def go with option 1 if I were you.

Thanks for your input, I will only install about 2-3 game max. I guess they will not used up to 70 gb of space on the SSD.

I didn't expect a former user of 300gb Raptor will jump in this thread. This really means a lot, as I'm new to SSD. applaud.gifapplaud.gif

Really appreciate your comment, number 1 will be my choice then... cheers.gifcheers.gif

I have G.Skill Phoenix Pro, its SATAII, but destroys raptor. and i also have 1TB caviar black as storage, even though its a solid boot drive as well. Number 1 is the right choice!

If it's gotta be one or the other I'd go with the 120GB SSD.

Personally though I like having both.
OS lives on my SSD and I have the velociraptor do all the grunt work (page file etc) and games...love it smile.gif
