it's like mass effect, looks good as long as you're zoomed out on the characters/scenery. look closely at this games textures at your own risk... the textures are so bad, when you do see textures that are like 2006 quality, its like 'oh wow, that looks REAL nice...'
but now that you bring it up, does anyone know what 3d engine they're using and how old it is, etc? i'm curious. i even put the 16x's aa on, and tho it smooths some things out, you can tell the renders are low polygon with sharp 90 degree angles...
still having fun playing the game which is what counts. but honestly, if i wasnt a star wars fanboy, id be like 'meh, been there done that' *puts skyrim back in*

It's called the Hero Engine...It's essentially much like Nginx in the fact that it allows a user to create a base environment and then build on it.

We've far from seen the best or even the final touches in this game.

Give it time.

Also, you do realize that until they turn AA on in the game itself, it's just a approximate simulation, right? In English, it's like turning the turbo button on in your car...It may sound loud and be all showy but, there's not actually a turbo...Yet.

I just read up the Hero Engine company story behind SWTOR. it was pretty nice.

That's pretty much exactly what I do.

For PvP you just add two more skills when needed in the rotation and you're good to go. Can't remember the names. One is basocally an interrupt if you're fighting a caster and the other is just a free melee hit if you parry/dodge a blow, or something similar.

okay, so how old is hero engine?
thing is, people keep trying to defend this game by comparing it to WoW, okay WoW is OLD... so how is TOR gonna compare to NEW MMOs in say a year or two? they're gonna be looking forward and if swtor is built to combat OLD mmos, well, i think you can see where this is going... sure hope bioware built a game for the present and future, not the past...

Well, the engine was developed basically primarily for this game so, 2010...I think around september?

First beta had a lot of issues but, it's come a long way.

This engine isn't like the U3 engine or anything else because once that code is written in those enviroments it's done.

This is an evolution type engine in which, things can actually be fixed and "evolved" as time goes on.

Like I said, this is just the beginning...As with any new engine there are kinks but, eventually, I think this game will look as it was meant to smile.gif

Going to change topic again but still about SWTOR.

As for now most of us installed SWTOR via the client from SWTOR.com website directly. There wasn't any need to use Origin or Steam and that is great!

As far I remember it requires Origin. I fear that something will happen to it on the Dec 20th. They might force people to launch from Origin.

Oh nevermind. I got my answers:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ruhRWXye3RAJ:www.echoseven.eu/showthread.php%3F1554-To-clarify-You-do-not-need-Origin-for-SWTOR+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&client=firefox-a

But why in the world BF3 requires Origin in the background if it is only a storefront. That makes no sense.

DRM...Origin is the DRM for BF3...SWTOR requires no DRM because if you're playing, you paid for it.

Yes, they've mentioned it may be implemented...Again, I think they're going to wait and see how "organic" the engine actually is...

A couple friends of mine are actually working with the engine now and the amount that you can evolve a project once it's live is incredible.

I mean we're not talking like Rift incredible but, we are talking about full implementation of AA, hopefully DX11 in the future...I mean they can realistically do whatever they want.

It's hard to relate this to anything other than NGINX because it's just so open to //everything//...For example, from what I'm told, you can actually implement a change on the fly and when the next people load the area, it's live.

Do I think Bioware will use Hero to THAT extent? More than likely, no; but, I do think they'll upgrade the system in chunks.

cool... so you guys think there's a chance we'll get the aa implemented after tonight's update? know i read they wanted to get it in at or near launch, so im hopeful...

or maybe they're just gonna clean some general things up tonight... but im hoping for a big patch biggrin.gif
