hey, just because you took a low blow at me about reading comprehension...

i said i'm not a charity, meaning, i'm not dropping dimes for r and d, but for a product...not sure how you twisted that into my saying something about genius doesn't make it a charity case, or however i coined it (even tho i didn't tongue.gif )

If they dont have a grasp on the technology that they used, they should have went to another proven technology. That is from an IT point of view.

With that thinking.... Why don't we use the engine that Ultima Online used when it released! Everyone has a good grasp of that technology.... This new engine will let improvements be made to the game in the future for a long long time. A old engine would do nothing but hold back future improvements.

You might want to read up some story behind this where it all began. The HERO engine is apparently a good friend of the SWTOR director. He dedicated the HERO engine for MMO purpose. So he licensed it.

Using other company engine is more expensive to license since if the game gets so popular on fanbase.

This isn't wow that worked from a borrowed engine...this isn't aion or lineage that did the same.
This is a brand new graphics engine and a brand new server tech...
Shall we start parting seas for you to walk through for your monthly contribution?
The issue is one of rendering and it's a known issue but it's place in line, is far beyond the next several weeks...I my even skip ces to stay.
I wish it were as easy as flipping a switch, believe me...
Graphics are going to take a few months and like I said, if you don't like it feel free to go elsewhere...
Playability right now is #1.

It's not in a beta stage...far from, actually.

The major issue in terms of developement was the ultimate user end response to the game...quite simply, it boomed.

When it boomed, the servers weren't exactly geared to handle the load..I.e. each server has 2x wow's avg pop...and each physical back end server is about 3-4 vre's...

That response put them on their heels and a lot of the issues they thought were solved, weren't...

That still doesn't change the fact that even the most advanced users can't handle ultra...the enthusiasts struggled...that's not something that will be released publicly no matter how "butta" it looks.

My opinion is one entirely of respect considering my background, especially coming from a beta office...this game was more than ready for its release date but, unfortunately...10m+$ of servers just couldn't handle initial load. M = millions folks.

At this point the priority is really to get back on track...it's clear that the client end can't handle the delivery of the initial product so, its really all about getting to that point.

My opinion is that 1.2 and 1.3 will carry over the vast majority of the bug fixes but, I genuinely don't see a graphics fix until at least 2.0...It actually is a bug but the long term load bearing is still in he air.

Btw nvidia, I read on the Internet that a little girl kicked the crap out of you...must be true since I read it in some forum - lets start a conversation about it? A nice easygoing one, eh? Maybe we can call her a charity case too, eh? Get my point yet or is this going to keep going in circles?

sure, man, probably take it to pm or something, that sounds pretty ot...

i do have to laugh at reids spin of this tho... its like swtor is the first mmo... come on, its 2012, you had to have some clue as to how to get high rez textures in... lets hope youre right tho and it's out by 2.0... i'll prob be 50 by then, so i'll get to see my new gear all sparkly

The above task is incredibly complicated...and your graphics just aren't a priority when beta proved that not even the best of systems could handle the heroengine.
If you're done talking about this, that's fine. But if you're up to responding to this, I find these statements to be really bizarre. I just spent the entire morning and half the afternoon doing almost no work, but reading the conspiracy theory thread on the SWTOR forums regarding the second SWTOR process and possible DRM stuff, and getting an itty-bitty overview on texture and model rendering, and my impression is that having the server handle anything related to actual graphics rendering would be ridiculous in terms of load times. This must not be what you mean, I assume this tech is more than a few years off. Can you clarify what you mean by this?

Yeah, this is definitely an explanation I would have loved in response to my posts (if you said it and I missed it, I apologize). That there are issues they thought were fixed and weren't, make sense to me, and is certainly a lot less damning than releasing too soon. And it's completely understandable when the game is based on a a relatively new engine that's been heavily modified, and a completely new server tech.

The worst part is then the public berate them saying the same things you do...2002 graphics...really?!?! Do you have an inkling of a clue how hard they're working to even get this game to function on this platform?

As I said, the 'tude you exude constantly is absolutely disrespectful and your lack of understanding about the issues, is infuriating.

Don't try and play the sympathy card to deflect that anger. That's disrespectful to the customer. Without the customer you are nothing, regardless of how you feel about their opinion.

They paid their money, of which £45 is quite alot for a PC digital copy (a pretty ridiculous amount to be honest), commited to a subscription, and they have an expectation that should have been met. It wasn't met. They have the right to be angry if they are unsatisfied with the final product, for whatever reason. The graphics not being up to par is a viable reason, whether you agree with it or not. Regardless of the reason of that expectation not being met.

As a paying customer I expect each and every person in that company to work their butts off until the problem is resolved. If they don't then they don't deserve my money.

I'm sorry if that comes across rude or dickish, but I'm sick of companies failing to deliver and then playing the sympathy card after they've taken our money.

I had many people quoted and unfortunately, my iPad just won't separate the bbcq from eachother so, I'm just going to address several issues...

1) I'm an admin for Alienware, in charge of nginx development and I run the beta office.

2) I really don't care what anyone thinks of me, I've made that extremely obvious...I got to where I am today by doing my best and I'll continue to do so until the day I leave here...with that comes the experience of running over 60 currently active betas in my office, 12 games and 4 future mmos including 2 that are being processed by blizzard.

3) I'm here purely because I choose to be, it's the same reason I'm not a hardware vendor...my answers are my own, I am responsible for what I say and I'm glad some of you are saying something, that's great...for the first time today, we've actually had a condusive, positive conversation.

4) I get very tired of repeating myself and it's not about the sympathy...it's about the lack of understanding at how truly hard the task is at hand.

If someone told me they were climbing a hill and failed, I may laugh but, if someone told me they were climbing Everest and failed, that's certainly something to take into consideration...unfortunately, we're climbing Everest and the 2.2m of you treat it as if it's the apartment stairs,

So in closing, I'm here on my own will, I don't care what anyone thinks of me, facts are facts and generally I'm just tired of the disrespect towards a goal that's incredibly difficult...if any of you truly think the graphics are that big of a deal, play something else.

I just got called about that...too bad editing doesn't work anymore...oh well.

my point is and has always been the same this is the most advanced, most intricate mmo that will be available for a long time...if you're going to constantly berate the graphics, play something else because when they're eventually optimized...you'll be back...

Just to let anyone in AUS know, I just picked up my copy from Gametraders. It's WoW with better story and voice acting. The graphics though...

1992 called, they want them back tongue.gif

Otherwise I'll keep progressing and see how it goes.
