Free to play is successfull the evidence is there I pulled aion as an example as its the second biggest mmo in the world and it went free to play, that was a bussiness descision that had nothing to do with its success of failure in the west "globally" it was a big success they are not going to throw that away in favour of a less profitble model trying to win over a few western players.
hosting costs sure and the more you host the better off you are but are you really saying that NCsoft achieve signifcantly higher economies of scale than EA? guildwars (sorry to use anouther ncsoft game) not quite free to play but no subscription again massively successfull and still very profitble (yes) even here in the west, largely through an active micro transaction vanity centred store front. DCUO never had a big sub base but following it going FTP they were talking some staggering increases in profits. And I know its not an mmo but LoL is hugely profitble. The free to play bussiness model works as well for a game with 15million players like LOL as it does for small time games with only 200k whereas a subscription model is only realy viable if your keeping a large number of very active people playing.
Freemium games are big money and in a year or so time unless swtor has massive growth in subs (which i hope they do but very much doubt i honestly expect them to have peaked by this summer at the latest) it will join the legion of freemium games that enjoy a comfortable profitable and much elongated lifetime thanks to the joys of a very large casual playerbase.
In fact i would be pretty suprised if they hadnt already factored that into thier bussiness model.
End of the day companies will always do whatever brings them most profit thats all there is to it, right now that means if your huge then a sub based model if not then micro transactions. I honestly feel that subscription is a dated model and it wont be long untill subscription based models dissapear all together.

See the difference between us, is this is YOUR opinion.

My statements, are actually based on industry fact...See, I live in this world and talk to these admins, daily...In fact, 2 of the NcSoft admins, Nguyen and Gento; I email daily, we take each-other out to dinner, share tech and all that jazz (That's how small this world is) -- JUST talked to them about this subject a few weeks ago...Your idea that F2P actually produces profit in a WESTERN society, is wrong. Period.

I'm not about to have this discussion with you because you're incredibly green and you don't actually understand the server-based realities that exist in this world...Perhaps when you actually speak to the real admins, understand the societal differences in how we run/operate businesses and can actually properly spell check a paragraph, we'll have this discussion again but, until then; good day.

If you need help in SWTOR, please PM me, otherwise, I'm moving forward.

It's really about 20% to cover all of the costs -- Typically when a game goes FTP, especially an american game, it's done to consolidate server-side costs...For example, Everquest ~ NOW, Everquest will basically pay for itself and they hope it will just run the course over the next few years without costing them losses ~ Same is true of Warhammer.

In Voidstar and Alderaan Civil War this could do insane total damage to people on doors and defense terminals.
Explosive Probe does +15% damage, costs 16 energy, drops 3 cluster bombs which do an extra +184 damage and increases my energy +5 every time they're activated.
Corrosive Dart has a 25% chance to double tick, and has a ~50% chance to crit on every tick (38% base + 12% skill). Every crit also restores 2 energy to me. Also lasts 18 seconds.
Corrosive Grenade does +23% damage on every tick, has a ~50% chance to crit on every tick, does +72% dmg on crit, restores +2 energy on crit. Up to 3 enemies only, though. frown.gif
Interrogation Probe has a ~50% chance to crit, and costs 16 energy.
Suppressive Fire does +15% damage on each shot? And does +102% dmg on crit? (Not sure if Suppressive Fire counts as area damage)
Adrenaline Probe's cooldown is 1m30s, as opposed to 2m.
Shiv does +10% dmg
Overload Shot and Snipe do +6% dmg, Cull and Series of Shots does +12% dmg
+10 Energy overall (110 Energy in total)
+9% Cunning
While losing Followthrough will suck, a souped up Frag. Grenade will do just nicely as a replacement. About 33% less damage, but is able to do AoE damage.
Edit: Few corrections and more up to date.

so if i was looking for burst damage for pvp this would be it? Maybe someone can help me with imperial agents, but I still haven't figured out how to manage energy well. frown.gif

Guardian ~ Really...Just make sure the healer runs with you in PVP on either char.

Whatever you guys do NOW, keep in mind for 1.2, it will be different.

Balance is coming in all senses of the word.

really depends though, if you want to pvp or pve,
PVE perspective:
As of right now, guardians make good tanks, but shadow/vanguard tanks are much better tanks. mainly because shadow's do more damage and vanguard's are ranged so they get hit less by some bosses. Also, currently, guardian dps for pve is gimped.
Sentinels are amazing for pve, they bring excellent damage, and buff the group. Usually you try to get at least 1 for an 8 man HM.

PvP perspective:
Guardians are amazing for pvp on the other hand, either as a tank or dps. they have great burst as well as interrupts to take out most classes. +force push. Tanky guardians make excellent huttball chars.
Sent are still great at pvp, but they do plenty of damage and can almost interrupt lock a healer to death. They tear through squishies and are somewhat hard to kill.

This is mainly are personal opinion, but if you like PvE more, i would go with a Sent, if you like to pvp more than anything, go guardian, and if you like a little bit of both, go sent. Just my 2cents.gif

good to hear, I only remember hearing something about threat generation, but I could be wrong. I figured they wouldnt be changing their damage too much. But what about guardian dps spec damage? I have yet to see a good one even with full rakata, they just don't compare to the other classes dps.

Range tanks are still pretty OP too, I mean they dont even get hit by Annihilator's cleave.

How do you know that? We don't have a combat log. All we have are our perceptions on what we think is good and bad. My favorite line from the guild summit:

That fight IS essentially a dps meter.

Also, as a tank doing FPs you can tell who and what are doing the damage. and when you hit enrage timers in HM FPs, something is wrong when they are wearing full columi.

Both Assassin/shadow and Jug/guardian dps is not even comparable to the other classes, especially range classes. It is by no means equal.

imo melee should do more dps than range, hands down, they are constantly moving and range just has to spread out and stay still.

Yep. And I'm one of the first couple of people done with my character. Not the first, but I always have to wait for others, even DPS. There's just no way to tell for sure until we have a combat log.
