Asus G53SW or Alienware M15x?

Picking up a laptop tomorrow (or wednesday), cannot decide. cannot decide.

Should I go with the anodized aluminum cased Alienware, with 1st gen. i7 and gtx260, 6gb ddr3,.....

or should I get the newer refreshed 2nd gen i7 sandy bridge, and gtx460m ASUS g53sw, but it's made of primarily plastic????

I cannot decide. M15x isn't really made anymore, and even though i7 is 1st gen and the gfx card, it would hold me down for a while since I don't hardcore game.... And I would appreciate the build quality....

The Asus is just a sick performer. Although I've begun to hate plastic laptops and could almost see myself getting a macbook in the future.....

I dunno what to do

All comes down to aesthetics vs. performance - I think you'll get used to the aesthetics of the Asus, and the Asus is significantly faster, not to mention that the 2nd gen i7 is much more power efficient, it would certainly be my #1 choice of those two.

If you're planning on getting a MBP, I would just get one now as it will serve you for light gaming [15" model, 13" isn't terrible, I can run most games at medium or lowered settings on intel integrated gpu] AND have the look that you like.

If you're not gaming a ton, look at a Dell XPS 15 L502X. It has the Sandy Bridge CPU, a GT 540m, and an aluminum body. Plus, there are smokin' deals in the Dell outlet right now with the 15% off coupon. I just picked up the laptop in my sig for $940.99 shipped.

Hi guys. Well, I was looking at the G53, obviously it's specs are awesome, but I would almost be willing to grab a 1st gen i7 and gtx260m in the Alienware just BECAUSE it's made of aluminum....

My current laptop is plastic and I don't even know if I want the Asus just cause of that fact, even though it has the sandy bridge etc..

well... the macbooks iunno a 15" is so expensive and it's parts don't justify it's price for me.. even though it's unibody aluminum, it's almost inverse of the Asus G53.....

So...none of you guys are fans of the Alienware eh?

The dell is alright, I was considering the 15z....

ya know, still waiting on paypal to freaking transfer my funds into my account..... god it takes forever.

The Alienware is fine, but the m15x is outdated tech. Even the 2630QM will smoke any of the CPUs available in the m15x. I have nothing against Alienware, I own an m11x, but if gaming isn't the primary use it's not worth the extra expense. Go for an XPS 15z, you can pick one up for under $800 in the outlet right now.

Doesn't the aluminum body casing make up on the m15x? How much better is the sandy bridge mobile i7 than the 1st gen. i7?

What is the point of having a fast CPU and GPU in a plastic case? One drop and it cracks in half. I'm almost leaning towards the alienware, even though its 1year old, over the Asus g53.

But let me take another look at this Dell 15z , atleast that one is aluminum....

Depends on what you read, but from most of the benches I looked at, the Sandy Bridge mobile processors beat the first gens by about 50%. Here is one bench where even the 2630QM smokes a 940XM by about 50%. In short, there is a huge performance gap between first gen and SB. Plus the TDP on SB mobile CPUs is quite a bit lower than on the first gens.

Sounds like your set on the alienware.

People are giving hard evidence that the asus is better, it sounds like you prefer looks over performance...so just get a MBP or MBA.
