Get a 2nd gtx 280 or two gtx 460s?

Thread Starter
I currently have a BFG gtx 280, but I am thinking of upgrading to gtx 460 sli to prepare for battlefield 3 and other new game releases. What do you guys think? Should I just get a second 280 and sli or go for the 460s and sli? If I do go for the 460s then I will sell my 280 and will need to buy an sli motherboard. Any other graphics card I should get instead or suggestions? My budget is $150. But I'm also planning to buy another stick of 2gb DDR2 ram.

Well a 460 is faster than a 280 but not by much. If you do upgrade with the 460's you will gain dx11 and consume less power. I would go for the 560 Ti's and SLI those since they offer better performance than the 460's for about $10 more.

I think that two 460s SLI will be better just coz' that GTX 280 only supports up to DX10
And the other reason is that the power consumption and temperature of GTX 280 are both much higher than 460.

How about 1 6950 1GB? Then you dont have to get a new board and it is more power than a 460

If going for an sli solution means you need to buy a new mobo, your best option might be to go for a single card ... especially when you consider the mobo will be an lga775 not a newer gen. If $150 is your total budget, then maybe a 6870 ... if you can add more money from what you saved on the mobo + selling the gtx 280, maybe a 6950
