Most people just remove the fan and the D14 fits fine. I refuse to.

Have you considered removing the side fan? From my past experience it was worth much more to have a better heatsink than a side fan.

That H80 seems like a good choice. I am strongly considering it.

Yes its a very nice heatsink that performs very well. It gets alot of hate because its a downdraft heatsink. Right now I am only using 1 fan on it while folding and it sits around 60c. Thats with a 4.5ghz oc.

I've considered it. I'm just worried about my GPU, even though it has 3 fans on it. I might just go with the H80 and be done with it.

The performance of the 920 and H80 are very similar. And they're both LOUD.

Anyway, OP, if you don't want to go through the hassle of/don't have the funds for a full water cooling loop, a 920 or H80 seems like the best option in your situation.

I'm surprised you can't fit a D14 in the Elysium without removing the side fan. That thing has a reputation for being a cavern.

If you want to stay on air, some good options are the C14, Megahalems (if it fits), and Frio.

Yeah, it's a shame that you have to remove the side fan.
I will also consider the C14. It should fit perfectly.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

I've always preferred downdraft heatsinks. After several years of using a good number of the high-end towers, and experimenting with watercooling, I'm back to downdraft sinks, probably for good.

It's just too much of a hassle to keep my boards and memory cool without dozens of CFM pointed directly at the board.

I haven't used the C14 yet, but I did strongly consider it, and it would likely take my mediocre i7 970 to 4.2GHz without overt difficulty. I don't think you'd have any issue getting near the maximum clock reasonably possible on your 2500k with one.
