Stupid low FPS?

Thread Starter
I'm not sure what the problem is, at first I thought maybe because the mobo only supports a second card at x4, even with XFIRE disabled I only can manage to pull an average of 50 FPS in Bad Company 2, xfire enabled, it's more like 52. 60 if I'm looking at a wall, VSYNC or not, FPS doesn't change.

I was thinking maybe my PSU, I know it's not that great, so I disabled xfire, didn't wanna risk it, even still, performance is horrible.

I erased and wiped all traces of old drivers, re installed, still garbage.

I know games like FO:NV are on a older engine, but I drop to 38 at times :|

Would appreciate any insight, not exactly a pro at anything yet.

My friend rocking a single 2GB 6950 just tested [ Max, like me, 1920 x 1080 res ] and he gets an average of 66-67 in intense areas. Sometimes 55, but even still, intense areas for me is more like 30-40.

Have you tried formatting? Also, what are the temperatures of the cards while gaming?

sounds like driver issues, possibly a psu, the x4 slot can't help but shouldnt ruin the performance like that, how is your cooling?

Which CPU does he have?

However, it's true that the PSU may be the culprit too. According to Guru3D, here are some signs that may point to the PSU being unable to cope:
  • bad 3D performance
  • crashing games
  • spontaneous reset or imminent shutdown of the PC
  • freezing during gameplay
  • PSU overload can cause it to break down

One card usually idles at 39c, I've seen it get up in the low 50's gaming. I'm running on 11.6 from ATI's website, I uninstalled and wiped all of my other ones.

I'm really just considering reformatting

That or the PSU may really be the culprit, planned on upgrading it this Wednesday anyway.

Your temperatures seem fine. Have you tried 11.5 or 11.4 drivers? Also make sure to install the CAP's when you turn on crossfire.

I did install the CAP's, I don't really trust 650 so I dont run crossfire really, but, even with one 6950. I should be pulling more than 30 in a firefight in BC2, my friend with one 2GB 6950 drops into the mid 50's, that's MAXED, regardless crossfire or not I can't pull more than 40ish in a firefight :/

EDIT : Gonna try rolling back drivers.

Sorry, missed that earlier. He's using the exact same as me, 965 at 3.8. I even tried reverting to stock clocks just in case.
