This is a thread hopefuly help people out with their decision regarding headphones , dolby surround 7.1 vs 5.1 headphones vs 2.1 delay trickery vs plain old quality and comfy headphones , its an overwhelmingly competitive market out there and I like to do research before I buy , I had a maximum of 300$ budget , wich is quite alot for a headset .
So I was looking to buy a headset , having already once had a headset I found heavy I was looking for comfort , most important , I was also looking for some directionnal surround sound also and some good overall sound quality , to top it all I needed this to work with my ps3 (perhaps in surround ) , I was looking for pretty much the perfect headset . After alot of reading I never could find the perfect balance between lightweight comfort , quality sound , surround .
After tons or deading my possibilities were this .
The sony dr-ga500 looked like the most lightweight and comfortable and the surround was supposed to be very good with a nice sound card , I was gonna buy this headset/decoder , and this sound card .
Plug my ps3 optical into my soundcard and switch with the decoder between 5.1 or 7.1 surrround depending if I was playing my pc or ps3 . The thing is that no soundcard can decode from compressed 5.1 optical from the ps3 and transmist in analog 5.1 , but it can transmit it in 2.1 without me having to disconnect anything physically . so that was good enough for me since I never really play my dusty ps3 now , would have been awesome tho .
At the last minute , I cancelled my order and I decided that the sennheiser rs 170 would be a more long lasting and enjoyable experience , I broke my last headset when I rolled on em with my chair .
Today I have received my rs170 and I think I made the right choice ,having no wires and good sound with a lightweight ( 260 grams with batteries) comfy headset woth a battery that lasts 24 hours , I couldnt ask for more .
