I can't see why else they'd have so many different CPUs at these price points.
Its not like 2600K is weak. There is nothing right now that AMD has that can beat it even with a Max overclock. A 1100T @ 4.4Ghz cant beat a stock 2600K. Also as long as these new CPU are not to far off SB clock per clock 2600K should remain a top seller as the extra 2 cores are useless to 90% of people.

Yes, I know, but I wasn't referring to Phenoms, I was referring to Bulldozer. I guarentee Bulldozer will have beasts @ $200 and $300 range, if not even in the $400 range.

This is how it was for a while.

AMD vs Intel, AMD won, but Intel won the extreme side. This happened for a while. You had dirt cheap AMD dual cores and sub $200 Phenom x6s and $50 - 100 motherboards that could crossfire @ x8 x8. Intel had their i7 900 series, which was IIRC at least $250 if not more for an i7 930 and their corresponding motherboards were no where near the $100 range, more like $150+ minimum. As well as your triple channel RAM, even tho you could do dual, who would do that? AMD just had the upper hand at the price/performance market.

Right now the i5 2500k is just killing any $600+ builds (which is the majority) and the i7 2600k is pretty much taking care of the extreme part as well. The i7 990x maybe gets bought, but no where near how the i7 980x was pre Sandy Bridge. Only time you go AMD now is $550 or less.

Hate to break it to you, but AMD never had "dominance in the majority of builds." Certainly not since C2D.

Might as well get that 2600K instead of that 3820.... you're paying less to get nearly the same clock-for-clock performance and actually be able to OC
a big, obvious difference from the timeline is the 15 MB L3 cache instead of 12 MB L3 cache.

I entirely agree - but AMD has baffling nomenclature as well. You really don't know what you are getting until you purchase some disappointment.

Exactly can only beat it if it is overclocked. Right now the 2600k is one of the best cpus to my knownledge. Nothing beats a 5ghz on air
