I would never recommend something I own just because I, personally, had a good experience with it.

Say what you want, but asking for recommendations and then you (not being the user who asked for it) should not be the one to call anyone out for it.

Sound may be subjective but certain guidelines should be followed (e.g. not recommending an HD555 for someone who wants a headphone for dubstep). I see that example occurring all the time so people, read the OP. Decide whether or not your recommendation suits the genre the OP listens to and whether or not your recommendation fits the budget then make a recommendation post.

If you are going to recommend the HD555 for dubstep anyway, back it up with at least some personal experience instead of saying "I LOVE MY HD555s!!!!!!!!!11111." That's a terrible response and the poster should get a -REP or at least a bashing for that.

I will definitely mention this in a recommendation, but won't make the recommendation solely because of this fact. However, chances are that if I've owned it, it's pretty good and deserves a recommendation. Stack on top of that the fact that I had a good experience with it and you have a well rounded opinion.

Some of the most common blind recommendations:
Corsair PSU/WC, Sennheiser headphones, Western Digital HDD, Coolermaster HAF series, Logitech MX518 (I'll admit this one deserves to be blindly recommended).

We're past it but previous blind recommendations (or recommendation "crazes" if you will) included: HD4890 and the P45-UD3P in particular, Antec Cases...

Truth, but I see a lot of threads with direct answers, but a "that's not what I wanted to hear, so it's obviously not right" mentality from the OP.

But yes, deafly recommending audio product is a sin.

You should totally just get like 8 i7's though.

Funny you would say that as I bought my 555's for Dubstep.

When you remove the foam, the bass really picks up. I also listen through an amp. I dunno, but the bass is so loud that occasionally when I'm listening full blast(near deafening)volumes, they fall off.

How did you miss Hyper 212+? Thats probably the most spelled name on this site.

And about people recommending things they own, its because they want justification for their purchase. You see this a LOT, and I mean a LOT on car performance forums, especially with those parts that don't really do anything but people get because someone told them to and they "felt" it through their excitement (I dont care what you say, you cant feel 5hp difference in a 3000lb+ car) so now they tell everyone else to get it. If they come to terms with reality and realize they just wasted $500 theyre gonna feel like crap.

As an example, I own a 2006 Mustang GT. On most forums, when someone asks for advice on where to start modding, 98% of answers will be a cold air intake/tuner combo (you cant install a bigger MAF housing on this car without it throwing a code if you dont flash the computer) and exhaust. More specifically, the people replying will usually suggest the exact brand of intake that they got, and that is usually followed by "youll love it thumbsupsmiley.png ." They want others to get the product and agree with them so they feel better about their purchase, even though an intake is just a pipe and a filter and most of the performance increase comes from the tune flash. Same thing with exhaust, except it makes NO difference (except long tubes) and is just for sound, yet people recommend getting their specific brand and model exhaust. They even recommend getting an aftermarket H pipe, which is the EXACT SAME THING as the stock pipe! And they swear that they can feel the difference, which nobody has shown a measureable difference, and, again, do it so they can justify throwing down a few hundred dollars for something that didn't do anything.

Exhausts can add horsepower.... you don't "feel" it, but you can DYNO it.
