Not quite as zippy as my free laptop (see sig rig) but nice find nonetheless!!!

As mentioned earlier, Doom is a must-have on there!

I love the keyboards on those things. More modern laptops just don't feel as satisfying to type on.

Wish I had one of those as a kid. My first rig was about 2001, had 700Mhz Duron, 64Mb RAM and nVidia Riva TNT

So this little fella here sure brings good memories

Nice fine!

Try installing something like: FreeBSD, Tiny Core, DSL, or FreeDOS.

I used to have a bunch 1998 HP desktops with Pentium MMX 200 Mhz's and anywhere from 64-192MB memory but I recycled them. I still have an old Gateway desktop with a Pentium 4 1.4Ghz processor, 384mb memory, and an EVGA 5500 FX. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro laying around I can put in it. Still trying to figure out some way to put it to good use. Might end up using it to play emulate DOS and Gameboy games connected to my TV. Maybe try doing that with your laptop.

R9800 is a great card, I had 9550 crazily overclocked (from 250 to 520Mhz ) and I could max UT3 on 1024x768

I don't wanna hi-jack your thread, but after looking it up, I can easily run CS 1.6 and other low end games on it with only 386mb memory. I'd just use that laptop as a project laptop. Try overclocking it, modding it just for fun, playing DOS games, whatever you can think of.

I use several systems of that age.

My gran has a Dell 8100, 1.4GHz P4, 512MB RIMMs, and an Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS. She uses it for printing, word processing and basic internet use.

My workshop rig has a 2GHz Athlon 3000+, an XFX FX5600, 1.5GB of RAM and a 160GB WD IDE HDD. Does everything my netbook does.

Currently selling a 1.2GHz Duron, 384MB RAM, on-board GPU, 20GB HDD, HP Pavilion case.

I would keep it to muck around with.

And Corky, I've had about 3 free laptops. a Dell D505 (dead HDD), a ThinkPad X31 (yeah, it needed a top half, but still...), and my Satellite Pro L300 (in need of new screen and HDD). Plus the Dell and the Athlon listed above were all made of free parts (apart from the WD IDE HDD and the Athlon's case)

Infact, apart from my sigrig, laptop and netbook, all my rigs are free (inc about 3 LCD monitors, 5 or 6 towers, 3 laptops and boxes full of parts). Gotta love freecycle
