Looking for a Micro ATX motherboard

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
Hi All,

I've got a old Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 system and though it works, its still a bit crap! I am researching into eventually replacing it for something that can take my AMD Phenom 1090T when AMD release their new CPUs.

But I looking for the major options;

AMD3 with 125w CPU support
2 x memory slots (any more a waste)
1 x PCI Express x 16 slot (for a GTX 570)
1 x Gig Ethernet
1 x SPDIF Out
2 x SATA
USB
Stable for some overclocking

I have no need for any of the following;

PCI
PCI Express x 1 slots
PS/2
serial
parallel
IDE
Floppy

Any suggestions?

I think I may have found one in;

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=A75M-ITX&cat=Specifications

But not sure what AMD CPUs are compatiable with Socket FM.
post #3 of 8
FM socket is for llano APUs. There honestly aren't very many good mATX AMD motherboards. I bought A MSI 890GXM-G65 but there have been many reports of it catching fire when overclocking 125w cpus. ESPECIALLY 6 core. No matter what, avoid MSI motherboards for mATX AMD. They have weak power phases.

I'm sure xd_1771 will be in here soon enough with some advice but I just wanted to let you know that you should avoid MSI mATX, coming from an owner of one.

i have an Asus M4A785TD-M evo going spare,
it supports x6 and claims to support 140w TDP's,the bios is a whole lot more involved than my old foxconn destroyer but it was easy enough to get 4ghz out of my 945,and 2ghz out my average 600mhz ram biggrin.gif
and it seems to fit your criteria pretty well but i doubt Bulldozer will be supported by it though

I know you guys will call me crazy or nuts with this one, but it held up damn good for me.
A 6 hours stress on both a 970 and 1090T cpu at stock speeds. You will need some VRM cooler for it too.
BIOSTAR A780L3G AM3 and yes it is a 3+1 phase power. I'm look at the quality of those phase power.

Yeah the MSI 890GXM-G65 can work fine with x4s but is known for really taking a hit trying to run Thubans, stock or OCed.
Biostar 3+1 boards seem to have improved quality over others, but I wouldn't count on them for long term 125W capability just yet (no proof)
I notice that the motherboard you are trying to replace is AM2 socket. If I am assuming correct that you were planning to use DDR2 on this system, the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OJVNRO?linkCode=xm2&tag=invihand-20"]M4A785-M[/ame] is a decent available midrange choice for running the x6 in a safe manner (just be sure to use the stock cooler). AM3 presents you with various options; perhaps this [ame="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131672"]M4A78LT-M[/ame] or [ame="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131657"]M4A88T-M[/ame]. Anything below this budget range and there's not really any definitely good choice for 125W CPU support unfortunately.

Socket FM1 takes the new AMD Llano APUs but not AM3 chips.

Thanks.

I'm looking for a small motherboard for this system, both the suggestions are are just too large for what I need.

Thanks anyway.
