GTA 4 low FPS HD4850& AMD 640

ok im running GTA 4 on a 15in screen so res is 1024/768

im getting average 20FPS max 50FPS low 15FPS

CPU usage averages 60% low 40% high 80%
my GPU usage is average 50% some times it goes up to 70% and even drops to 20% im playing every thing on high but its the same with every thing on low

i have 2 screens and i have played it in windowed mode and stretched it across both screens like so the res was some thing like 2048/1536 or 2048/768 well one of the 2 resolutions

and the FPS remains the same why am i getting such low FPS when its not even using much of my resources
and i repeat there is no change between high and low settings

GTA IV game engine is not well optimized. It depends too much on the CPU, but it puts a significant load on the GPU too, particulary the amount of VRAM. GTA IV runs at about 44FPS in my sig rig, and i'm not happy with it too
I need upgrades

Set draw distance to 20 or lower to gain fps.
Or turn shadows off to gain 20 fps.

i have already tried that no change what so ever i just dont get it its only using about 50-70% of my CPU & GPU but still so crappy

performance its mad really i can max out lost planet 2 bulletstorm saints row to resident evil 5 ( DX10 mode) at a constant 75FPS my screens refresh rate is 75HZ but GTA 4 is a bust O-well i guess i will be happy with the other games and make do with gta

bulletstorm would be in DX10 mode but the game cant actually turn DX10 on
i can pretty much max any of my games with DX10 on if passable but GTA 4

thanks every one i will just make do

I have a 9950 Phenom I and it works fairly well. Most of my draw settings are at 20 though. People won't believe me but the game works very well for my PC. All my settings are on high at at 1080. I turn off night shadows and limit my distances/draw levels. It took many times for me to get the game not to crash.

I know if I had a i5-2500k and a high level video card, it would beat GTAIV into submission.

its a shame the game is so badly optimized otherwise it would be more popular on pc and as i said i tried every thing from every thing low to every thing high and in between

i know its a badly coded game but to the extent that most of the graphical settings make know difference in performance is ridiculous i guess if i want to play it at any decent FPS i will get it for xbox again

Yeah it really is poorly optimized for any pc, i even get mircostutters on my computer...

I had to tweak the settings many time to get it stable and working well.

I remember playing the game with distances of 30 and night shadows, it would freeze up or crash completely.

Very tempermental game. You have to have lots of patience to get it to work fine. I just bought a i5-2500k sandy bridge, so maybe I'll get better results when I install it.
