If only they lowered the price my the amount that they're selling the DVD drive for... They'll probably raise the price of the Mac Mini again though.

OSX finally supports native blu ray playback, and the fact you can't pay to upgrade the mini to blu ray is just a huge fail from Apple in my eyes.

It would literally be the perfect HTPC in a terrific form factor.

Not to defend Apple or anything, but I rarely if ever use optical discs anymore, so using the mini without an optical drive wouldn't bother me. My X120e netbook doesn't have an optical drive, and neither did the last netbook I owned. The cheapy one in my desktop has been used maybe twice in its life. *shrug*

I rarely use them either, but I do use my blu ray player frequently. Considering Apple didn't even shrink the form factor, you'd think offering an upgrade to a drive would be a no-brainer.

It's like they're pushing their streaming only options. Bleh.

I have noticed Apple is cutting corners to get the production cost of their products as low as they can get and still sell them for the same cost. I really hate that! It makes me feel that Apple is just a selfish supergiant.

For a moment there, I was worried. Then I realised that it'll be a cold day in hell before I buy a mac.

Meanwhile, USB drives are nowhere near as cheap as CD's and the rest of the world still uses them. Apple expect their customers to overpay majorly on media or eat into their stupid download caps in order to acquire what they need.

Hackintoshes are ez; meh... you can get a nice Silverstone Mini-ITX build at an insanely low cost with the same i5 as the new mini. Yes, the case will be ~3 inches more on all dimensions; pretty "laughable" to me. (Edit: Some cheap measly $50 case is 11.80" x 8.70" x 5.1" and it doesn't look shabby, you can probably find smaller if you want to spend more)

What's new? this probably wont make a change to the sales as it still looks like the love child of a mac and an ipod shuffle with a half eaten apple picture stuck to it which is what people want.

Yeah, but overpay more than they already do! I mean, at least they can kid themselves that they've got great build quality, but paying extra for a USB drive with media on it because Apple seem to think they are "ahead of the curve" is just stupid!
