As stated above, SLI is Nvidia's version of AMD's Crossife. Combining two video cards where one card renders half the screen and the other video card renders the other half of the screen.

Also, as far as flashing a 6950 to a 6970, its hit or miss. I'd say you might have a 50% chance of accomplishing this. There are a few threads about this on OCN you may want to check out. They get into the specifics as to which cards you MAY be able to flash from 6950 to 6970.....you have to get lucky.

IMO, I really think you should spend the extra $50 and buy an Nvidia GTX570.

it lists most of the EVGA GTX570s (if not all) with their specs

they also have superclocked editions which you should check out
they come pre-overclocked
(although you could save some money and do it yourself if you know how)
