[CNet] New device detects drugs from fingerprints

The technology developed by Intelligent Fingerprinting, a spin-off company from the University of East Anglia in in Norwich, England, can simultaneously confirm a subject's identity and detect the presence of a number of drugs, including cocaine, cannabis, methadone, and nicotine.

The tip-off to the presence of drugs has less to do with the actual fingerprints, and more with the sweat that is secreted through the pores of the fingertips and then detected using dyed antibodies. Those antibodies are applied to the fingertips via gold nanoparticles on the device.

moral of the story, if you use and abuse...stay inside, cause the momoent you step outside and get arrested, you have no wiggle room to deny the use of an illegal substance

Give you a DWI/DUI.

OT: What about if you've touched a substance but never used it. That would only prove that you've been in contact with a controlled substance and not necessarily under the influence.

Somehow I doubt the arresting officer would all that sympathetic.

This kind of technology spooks me a little bit. Whole lot of potential for abuse.

How was I implying they would be sympathetic, getting a DUI/DWI is not receiving any sympathy by any means. They're quite horrible actually and very expensive.

Either way, I agree, it's quite frightening indeed. They already abuse their "privileges" quite often around where I live. Most of them forget they are public servants, and not revenue generators. No care for public safety, just out there to write tickets and harass people.

Interesting. Pretty soon our entire lives will be transparent. "Oh sir I see here you drank milk 3-4 hours ago. Building some strong bones I see. Very good, move along."

Either way im not too sure what to think about this...

Didn't mean to suggest you were implying they'd be sympathetic, heh. I agree with you.
