4.5ghz 1.39v BFBC2 Crash

Thread Starter
My cpu is stable in every game and 5 hours of prime95 at 4.6 ghz 1.375v

However in Bad Company 2 it is not. It freezes and I have to reset. So I lowered to 4.5ghz and it does the same. So now I am increasing the voltage every time it freezes

I've gone up from 1.375 to
1.380 - FAIL
1.385 - FAIL
1.390 - FAIL

I'm now on 1.395 and going to give it another shot. It seems really high for 4.5ghz? Should I keep going up until I reach complete stability? Temperatures are fine, never cracks 60C

Update: Figured out it was MSI Afterburner causing the crashes. Simply closing it while playing prevent any further problems

Are you sure it's CPU instability causing the crash? Also, what kind of "crash" are you having?
to me 5hrs of P95 is not stable. ANd if its going to crash in any game its going to be in BC2 because it is pretty CPU intensive.

5 hours of prime is not enough. Chances are, your overclock is not stable. I recommend a twelve hour run of prime blend followed up by up a 7 hour run of small fft.

BC2 is a crash happy game though at the same time. have you tried reinstalling it and updating it?

by freezing and reset, are you talking about total PC lockup?

Why do people still insist on insanely long runs of Prime?

Just do 50 passes of IBT/Linx, then do all your usual stuff/games etc. And if it doesn't crash, its stable. Christ no need for 457 hours of small ffts, 26 hours of blend and another 750 hours of small ffts.

His OC IS stable by the sounds of it, its just one game giving him problems, a game thats well known for crashing.

Also @ OP I'd bet its not a CPU instability. Clear the cmos and see if it still happens.

I got rid of my 6950s because I was sick of driver and hardware issues. Every time I played BF:BC2 my PC would freeze within 30 minutes, requiring a hard-reset. I didn't experience the issue when I had my GTX 470s or HD 5850s so I can only assume it was my 6950s.

Try running your GPU at stock clocks and do a fresh driver install. Hopefully that will resolve the freezing.

I don't have any issues with my 6950, other than issues I already had with my old 4890 anyway.

because if you are building an overclocked system for a client you want to make sure that it will never crash on them due to the OC and their for you become accustomed to running 24-48hr instances of P95 on your system because you never want to have stability issues when encoding video or gaming.

Or do you enjoy gaming and then crashing due to an unstable OC that you didnt test properly and have to put your gaming urge on hold to go fix you OC by adding voltage or decreasing the multiplier. Heck by the time you do that and re test your stability you dont feel like gaming anymore. So thats why personally I rather have the absolute confidence in my OCs...i go through a 24hr run of prime. THEN what you suggested with IBT and gaming on BC2 and crysis
