1.Neither the hauppauge colossus or PVR are CableCARD tuners. The colossus is a PCIe card that can record up to 1080i video from component or HDMI video sources that are DRM-free. The PVR is an external USB device that only has component. You would only need one of them if you want to record via component.
You will need a CableCARD + Ceton Tuner if you want to more than one channel at a time up to 4 (you will not be able to record On-Demand channels) I believe the Ceton is the only CableCard tuner at this time, i think hauppauge is working on one though.
