SSH Connectivitiy

Thread Starter
I am running an rm -r command that is removing 100+ GB of files. If my SSH session gets disconnected, will that command continue to run?

I'm pretty sure if you lose connection it'll close that TTY and kill the process. However, you could open up a screen or tmux session and do it inside of that.

When I SSH I always use tmux; its convenience is priceless.

Only if you background the process first, or use screen/tmux as mentioned. You can background an existing process by pressing Ctrl+Z and then writing 'bg'. To get it back into the foreground, write fg.

However, if you're disconnected while that's running, you won't be able to reconnect to the session in an easy way. Unless you're running screen/tmux

its good to know that bg and fg should be used with job numbers for managing multiple processes from a single tty type jobs to see a list of jobs and their associated number

then you can easily do just something like bg 5 or something like that to send job #5 to the background
Kinda meh now...

I just recently learned the screen command, and it's definitely something you should look up.

The first connection to an SSH server requires verification of the host key To automate the verification in script, use hostkey switch of open command to accept the expected hostkey automatically.
