Amd phenom frequency stuck?! (bsod)

Hey guys, i have a gaming rig with a phenom II x4 965 black edition 3.4 ghz processor, and a msi nf980-g65 motheboard, and bunch of other goodies graphics cards blah blah. any ways my motherboard has a easy "oc switch" directly on the board. you switch it once it increases fsb speeds by 10%, second time up to 15% and then up to 20% etc.

so for the longest time i have had it increase my fsb speeds by 10% which made my core speeds at 3.7ghz, everything always ran fine, temps were stable at 38c under load up to 43c i have a watercooler. i decided to switch it to the 15% mode which made my cpu run at 3.9ghz. but underload the temps would go above 52c and i would get the bsod. so i switched it back but now the cpu seems to be stuck at that frequency and now when ever i used adobe preimere or anything my temps sky rocekt 10c up to 52 and i either blue screen eventually or just stop what im doing so temps can go down. i manually lowered the frequency to 3.0 ghz using a program and temps still go up to the 50's but i dont blue screen. idk whats wrong and wheni restart its back upto 3.9ghz so i have to lower it using the program. the switch on the board is back to stock so idk what is wrong. i dont think its the motherboard because my northbridge temps and everyhting else runs fine.

any thoughts?

Generally it isn't well recommended to use any of the auto OC tools that come with the Mobo. Switching on the OC Genie on my MSI board resulted in a plain and simple inability to boot. It can do nasty things.

You've got a Black Edition, which is way easier to OC yourself than some other CPUs and a lot safer than the auto OC on the board. I'd suggest you go into the BIOS and turn off the OC Dial on the board, disable OC Genie altogether, and set everything back to default. Then raise your CPU multiplier (unlocked thanks to Black Edition) little by little and see your mhz rise to power.

There is a GREAT guide I found today for OCing any Black Edition processor, found here
