Apple is just maneuvering through a flawed system, just as gigantic corporations evade taxes with loopholes. Until the system is reformed, other companies such as Microsoft, Google etc will continue to exploit it.
But hey, this is OCN and blind Apple hate is the cool thing to do rather than use your brain cells right?
Oh yes, just assume my "hate" is blind. Also, you should just go ahead assume that I only "hate" Apple for this kind of stuff. You'll notice there are entire companies who's only income is patent suits. I "hate" them more than I could ever "hate" Apple.
Or perhaps it's due to the facts I posted previously?
I never once said that the patent system isn't to blame, in fact, if you had read my next post, you'd probably feel a little differently.

However, I have yet to see these companies patent troll it's competitors nearly as hard as Apple is right now. The current battle with HTC brought up a patent by Apple that basically patents displaying phone numbers on a screen.
Also, they somehow managed to patent unlocking a screen by "moving an image across the screen with your finger." Interestingly enough, HTC's drag-down unlock is under fire, but the much more similar stock unlocking of the Android OS is not.
I understand that this is a fundamental problem with our patent system, but it also doesn't say much for the company going after the competitors that are gaining market share the fastest with these ridiculous "patents." Some of which they weren't even the first to implement or design.
It might make business sense, but it should be obvious that Apple doing what they are doing is going to piss people off. Looking to get HTC banned from the US? Yeah, that'll piss off more than just "arrogant PC users."
I'm pissed at Apple right now, not blindly, but because how many damn patent suits they have brought up recently, trying to nail competitors with their extremely broad patents. Not to mention, first going after Samsung to get them banned from the US, and after they couldn't do that, HTC (both whom I think makes fantastic products that are innovative and clean).
Also, some of their "patents" have been around for some time now. It's interesting to me that it's taken them so long to realize that they could use them; "hey, look, that phone unlocks kind of like our patent!" It seems to me that they are losing market share to these companies, and this is how they are combating it.
I guess the real kicker is all of these people talk about how great of a company Apple is. Somehow, people seem to think that they are more moral than other multi-billion dollar corporations. It's amazing to me how well they keep their dirt quiet.
At this point, I'd rather no patent system at all.Edited by SectorNine50 - 7/26/11 at 12:43pm
