The jailbreak isn't the problem. Jailbreak is a cake. The unlock is the problem with me. There is no unlock for latest firmware. There hasn't been one for quit sometime. The only one that is out destroyers your gps, which is something he would like on his phone.

We were on ATT before we switched to tmobile and he hated it, the signal sucked so much with him. So we switched to t mobile. So going to att so we can use the iphone without the hassle of unlock is really not an option.

hmm I might look into that one.

What about the HTC Sensation. It looks pretty good.

If I buy that and unlock it. (I know its from tmobile) Will they force me to get a better data plan than edge?

The problem is that the Sensation is a T-Mobile phone and as such, you will get caught by T-Mobile when using a data connection. You could get the device unlocked (it's expensive at $500+ though) and manually disable data, but you still have access to everything else including WiFi.

EDIT: There's a non T-Mobile version of the Sensation, which is usually sold in Europe. You might get lucky and have data (albeit in EDGE) without your network provider bugging you with adding a data plan.

I would say go for the SGS 2, I have the SGS 1 and its a brilliant phone. And as for the comment about it taking months for the update, not necessarily. Just jump on to the XDA forums, select the sub forum for your phone and viola, every firmware with lots of custom ROMs for your phone

I'm not entirely positive, but I doubt they will allow you to just get an edge plan. I mean, you can turn 3G off but they don't have specific edge plans. In other words, you'll pay the same price whether you use edge or 3G. (HSPA+ is optional I believe with T-Mobile)

Another thing is streaming video on edge will be a literal nightmare. O_o

Anyway, Android has everything you'll need. I came from an iPhone 4 to a Nexus S (unlocked version), all the apps I had on my iPhone are available for my Android. The only difference is while I haven't rooted my Nexus S, I have all the abilities that my rooted iPhone 4 had, and more.

Research the different phones available and I'm sure you'll find one that will fit your needs. c:
