120Hz with an EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/1GD5? - Page 2

Although when I started rooting around in the catalyst control software I did notice something.

If I go into the Catalyst Control Center and go to My Digital Flat-Panels > Properties (Digital Flat-Panel); it reads out that it detects my monitor model, but then the "Maximum Reported Refresh Rate: 60 Hz".

So is it possibly the monitor driver or firmware reporting 60 Hz as the maximum erroneously?

Also, as a side note, all this rebooting has shows me that I have entirely too many programs that have decided to allow themselves to launch on startup. Skype, Steam, and why the hell does my PRINTER need to have software loaded on startup? Oh well, this issue is far more easily fixed than the other.

Could be an EDID-issue (Monitor firmware reporting max refresh rate 60hz) , but it would be somewhat strange since you had no problems with the 4850.

Remove and delete the monitor driver and reboot. Worth a try atleast:)

I probably should have mentioned that when I checked my monitor driver, it was listed as "Generic PNP", even though my monitor's model name showed up in the resolution changer.

Either way, I reinstalled drivers, then uninstalled, and switched DVI ports and rebooted twice for each change.

I still can't get AMD to say the Max Reported Refresh is 120Hz.

I wonder if there's a way to force Windows to allow me to choose 120Hz as an option, and see if that works.

EDID override , google that:)

Refresh lock was a program that worked for xp, not sure if there is one for win7 x64.

RadeonPro is a standalone program that has some tweaks and functions, might be worth a try.

Ati tray tools.

Atleast some hints:) Sorry I couldnt help out more. Good night:)

Oh God. Okay, this whole thing just crossed into stupid territory.

Let's just say when I google'd to research for which port would be the Dual-Link port, because I was tired of switching every single time I tried something new, my findings got me frustrated, I'll have a picture up soon.

EDIT: So I decided to see if I could go and find my manual, but apparently this stuff is straight diagrammed on the box itself.

I'm gonna go play some Street Fighter, I don't have the patience anymore to go and dig into my case to try this just yet.

Final Update

So after some drinking and a good night's sleep, I busted out the screwdriver and opened up my PC.

There is indeed a tiny little dipswitch on the PCB, literally smaller than, like, a gnat.

I flipped the dipswitch, plugged my monitor back in, turned everything back on, and holy ****, 120Hz works

Why the hell it's a dipswitch is beyond me. Either way, thanks to roxxphatcox for all the help and letting me waste both of our time on this.

Lol ***??!! Well , atleast u got it working smile.gif I would never have guessed a switch on the PCB, especially since 120hz worked "out-of-the-box" on my cards.

Excellent find, you probably saved the world a ton of driver installations and subsequent frustration! smile.gif

Now you can get annoyed over the lack of 120hz support in games and its ability to work properly:P

I installed the catalyst 11.8 drivers and voilâ , 120hz support went AWOL. Haha, I will be troubleshooting for a while and report my findings in case someone else got the problem.

Atleast it is limited to being a driver issue:)

So I basically rolled back the driver to 11.7, however the CCC is the same one bundled with 11.8. This works, so it is definely something fishy about the 11.8 driver and 120hz support.
