Antec 1200 case with H80 or H100 ?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I am waiting now for some months for these H100 coolers from Corsair, but it takes them a loooooong time.

I have a Antec 1200 big tower case and currently a Scythe Mugen 2 Rev.B on my AMD 1090T, but it just aint enough cooling for me.
I wonder if what you guys suggest.
Should I go with the H80 or wait for the H100 ? Is it worth to wait that long when all I see is that the difference in performance isn't that much.

I was planning with the H100 to create a push-pull with the 2 120mm fans that are already fitted in the case at the back.
Do you guys think it could be possible to create with this case ? Or should i create like some sort of push-pull with the 200mm fan in the top of the case ? I would have to probably do some custom work. Drill holes here and there in the ceiling.

I hope you guys can give me some idea's.

Thanx!

Wait for the H100. You could put in the 2 rear exhaust mounts.

Here is your answer explained...
http://www.overclock.net/water-cooling/1079868-h100-antec-1200-case.html

and no you cannot fit an H100 in an Antec 1200 case correctly. I found out the hard way...

The rear of the 1200 is the best possible position for the H series cooler, issue is they are too big to mount properly.

What is it that I'm missing here. Everyone I read are all saying the same thing. The H100 is a pain in the butt to put inside an Antec 1200 and just simply can't be done on the back two fan mounts.

(I'm not trying to advertise or anything, but I'd like to provide a link to another site that tested the H100 and used an Antec 1200 so that people here can read it and understand what they did that let them fit it)

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/corsair-h100_4.html#sect1

I would assume that in the compatibility section of that review, if they had to do major modification like what you guys are doing they would have mentioned it? Since they didn't I assume it fit without issues.

Anyone able to shed some light on this subject? I'm looking at the H80 and I KNOW it fits with ease, but the H100 is a little stronger overall at high clocks. so I'm thinking of the H100 for my system if it can go into the Antec 1200.

Thanks for the replies!

As seen above, in my rig, it's a pain in the (peep) to do it right.
The fans are also a bit offset

:thinking:EDIT:I've got an email out to the guy who did the review I have linked. On their forums another member had the same conclusion as I did: That the reviewer didn't need to modify the case/cooler at all.
Hopefully he can shed some light on his install experience or/and update his review to reflect any changes he needed to perform as both the cooler and case are popular!thinking.gif

Reading up on things, and after seeing HardOC's review of the H80 (finding it to beat the H100 until the H100 is full bore full fans and then only falling about 1-2 degree's behind) I think I'm just going to go the H80 route.
Beats my stock intel cooler eh?
I think I just don't have the tools and the know how to go drilling into the case and all those fans as much as I'd love to run the H100.

New H80 and the CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 here we go. See what the 760 can do.

Still don't really understand how the xbitlabs review failed to mention the horrible placement. I know I for one am the type to see what these guys do and then buy the same components rather than go with unknowns.

With that being said. Looking again at xbit's rig, I'm not seeing the offset you had to perform..... Wonder if they have email. I'd love to know how they did it. (see picture)

Got a 1 line response back from the reviewer. I've emailed him back asking for clarification. filmateleven.

Here is his installed unit.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/coolers/corsair-h100/34_h100_inst9_big.jpg

His response was
"Yes, I didn't modify anything, I just install H100 in 2 holes of the 8 on the backside of the Antec case."

So apparently he WAS able to install the H100 into an Antec 1200 with no modification. I'm now extremely curious.

What's even more strange is that the fans casings at the back from my 1200 case are not totally against eachother, not like against eachother as the fans that came from Corsair when you mount them on the 240 rad.
Maybe he did fit other fans then the standard ones that come with the case?
Also he must have adjusted something..when we were building the H100 in my case to make them fit at the back, we tried a lot of combinations, but they were still a bit offset from eachother in push-pull config.

I am now also curious how he did it confused.gif
