Sub $50 CPU cooler to get 2500k to 4.6GHz

Thread Starter
Okay so I'm on the hunt for an aftermarket cooler as I want begin overclocking! I really want something that'll enable me to push my 2500k to 4.6GHz but am looking to spend no more than $50 (before shipping fees). After talking to a couple of friends, the general consensus seems to be the Hyper 212+. However after doing some snooping on Newegg, I feel as though there might be some better products in the sub $50 range... Any ideas?? Thanks!

Hyper 212+ will get you to 4.6ghz no problem. To go higher you may want a better one, but as far as price/performance, Hyper 212 is pretty good.

One cooler that caught my attention was the Corsair A70. Its under 50 bucks, comes with two fans, and seems to get good ratings on the egg. Do you have any opinions on it? Does it outperform the Hyper 212+?

It is very slightly better. Probably not worth the cost difference, but if you like the look of it more, go for it.

The A70 is better by a bit. Here's a review:

just over 4c cooler on full load - slap on some good TIM and you've got a nice performer.

any half decent aftermarket cpu cooler can get you to 4.6ghz with a 2500k....so decide if you want to save money or potentially push further. heat isn't a huge issue with sandy bridge

Actually... for $50 I would get the Hyper 212 and some really good fans, which should perform better than the A70 with stock fans.

Hyper 212+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ter-_-35103065

I've been stable at 4.8ghz with a load of 58C (2 hours Prime). I've been into windows at 5.0ghz, but it wasn't stable. I did not mess with any voltages outside CPU, so I'm assuming thats why I wasn't stable higher. I run 24/7 at 4.5ghz now.

On a side note, I do have very good case cooling and 2 Yate Loons on my Hyper 212+
