New build for a friend

Thread Starter
My friend is planning on building his first PC and he has a few parts already picked out. I have been out of the loop on whats good for at least a year and have no idea whats good right now.

Here are the parts.
RAM

Case

MOBO

CD DRIVE

HARD DRIVE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136533

and we don't know about a Video Card yet. What do you think about these three?

We also need a Power Supply and I'm not sure how much power the computer is going to need. Can anyone suggest a PSU? The budget is around $1000-$1200.

What do you guys think of this build?

Get a 2500k instead of a 2600 if it is for gaming. You don't need hyper threading for gaming. The 2600 does not allow overclocking while the 2500k or 2600k would.

May I recommend the 560 ti for a graphics card.

Get a samsung f3 instead of the caviar black. Better price and better performance

I think CPU cooler is ugly and I am not a fan of the case (I have owned one, not the best imo) but if your friend likes them, go for it.

Edit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139016
would be a good PSU, but I am a Corsair fanboy, someone else may be able to suggest something in a better price range.

Edit 2:
RAM specs seem really high unless your friend is overclocking a lot. Maybe try something like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277

or an 8gb kit?

I just dont think your friend needs something that fast if he was looking at the 2600 which can't overclock at all

Nice build. I like the case but I am a HAF fan.
Good choice of ram although he should get a 2x4 GB Set so he has more room to expand.
Nice cpu but you should spend the extra 15 dollars to get a 2600K. The K means unlocked so it's like you're running 6 cores.I have one and I think it's the best processor available.
Good mobo easy for overclocking
nice choice for cd drive
OK heat sink
You should get the F3 1TB its 30 bucks cheaper and faster
and for the graphics card you should get the 6950 HIS IceQ turbo
Get a Corsair TX-750 or 850 for psu

K just means you can overclock it. Does not actually increase the speed by default or the core count or anything. Rest of what you said I agree with tho =)

Just to add in. I don't think there are any plans to overclock anything.

Keep the suggestions coming though. Everything helps.

$10 difference to get 2500k over the 2500. Even if you just use the motherboards built in overclocking settings (most have them these days, not sure about that specific one), the $10 would probably be worth it.

Is it just for gaming, or will he be doing transcoding, encoding, etc. that he need HT?

And in the no-overclock case... DEFINITELY don't need a RAM kit that good...
